It’s about damn time for Western publishing houses to publish AND PROMOTE books written by Ukrainian authors and poets, such as Ivan Franko, Taras Shevchenko, Lesia Ukrainka, Mykhailo Kotsiubunskyj, Ivan Nechuj-Levytskyj, Lina Kostenko, Marko Vovchok, etc!
A short 🧵
Like, what do you mean you’ve never heard of “Kajdasheva Sim’ya” (“Kaydash’s Family”) by Ivan Nechuj-Levytskyj?! Or “Lisova Pisnya” (“The Forest Song”) by Lesia Ukrainka? Or “Toreadors from Vasiukivka” by Vsevolod Nestajko?
All are complete masterpieces. Groundbreaking works.
The russian world, for SO MANY YEARS, has tried (and continues trying) to silence Ukrainian authors/poets/artists/, honestly - anyone in the creative realm.
The uneducated and ignorant folks with a hammer and a sickle in their bio are some of the most vicious, entitled, privileged individuals.
They will threaten you if you say anything against their delusional beliefs. Gaslight your/your family’s history. They will bully you.
You tell them about the sufferings you or your family has endured during communism and they will tell you “well, they were just not good people”.
They will LITERALLY justify your family being sent to the gulags simply for upholding Ukrainian traditions.
They will laugh at you if you tell them about Holodomor. They will laugh at you and aggressively scream at you that “Holodomor isn’t real. It never happened”.
They will make jokes about people who died due to hunger.
As a Ukrainian, I genuinely want to thank all non-Ukrainians who continue supporting and showing solidarity to my country despite the rampant russian propaganda.
Your support means the world.
You are on the right side of history.

That doesn’t mean you cannot question things. You are welcome to have a conversation with a Ukrainian person about anything you may have doubts on. Ukraine isn’t a perfect country (but again, no country is perfect).

Heard that Ukraine is ‘neo-nazi’? False, of course, but you can talk to us about how this particular 🇷🇺 narrative came to be. Forget about everything you’ve heard about Azov, NATO expansion, brotherly nations, biological weapons. Just listen. Ask questions.
