A thread on what I’ve found on Nathan Jones.

Even though it’s difficult not to, please don’t jump to conclusions.

Remember, Sport Republic are looking for hidden gems - he has the potential to be one if we give him a chance #SaintsFC
Jones finished his playing days with a 7-year spell at Yeovil.

During this time, he took his coaching badges, he coached Yeovil ladies, then became men’s player-assistant, and then first-team coach.

This proved his desire to manage #SaintsFC
At Yeovil, he worked with a number of players who became Premier League talent.

Including current Saints goalkeeper Alex McCarthy

In 2012, he worked as Charlton’s u21 development coach. He has experience of working with younger players.

That’s important with our first-team, but also to feed through the outstanding talent in our academy now #SaintsFC
Brighton came next. He held first-team coach and assistant manager roles there.

In 2016, Luton Town came calling #SaintsFC
He took Luton to League Two safety, then the play-offs, then promotion, and then had them 2nd in League One before leaving.

170 games, 87 wins, 46 draws, 37 losses. A win rate of 51.2% #SaintsFC
His time at Stoke was not a success.

However, Stoke’s struggles since falling to the Championship suggest that there is not the structure in place that Jones has at Luton and now will have at Saints #SaintsFC
He has since returned to Luton Town. They made the Championship play-offs on a shoestring budget last season.

He was subsequently named EFL Manager of the Season #SaintsFC
Key to his managerial style is pressing football.

That’s been part of the club for much of the past four years - including youth teams.

That brings less upheaval and could give us exciting football to watch again with a new manager bounce #SaintsFC
To prove this point, his Luton team (via @Wyscout):

Passes allowed per defensive action: 9.26 (5th best in Champ)

Challenge intensity: 6.7 (3rd best)

Average possession: 43.7% (3rd worst)

High intensity and risk, low possession but the potential to be exciting #SaintsFC
He’s proven to be tactically astute and intelligent in his management and has a refreshing outlook on things.

He credits his faith and part of his playing career in Spain as inspirations in his work.

He speaks English and Spanish #SaintsFC
On the #SaintsFC hashtag, I’m seeing fans embarrassed/bemoaning a lack of ambition.

We’re targeting a manager who has proven talent, we have a good club structure and a good squad with great potential.

There’s every chance that this can work if we throw our support behind it.
We’re all entitled to opinions - we’re all fans of the same club at the end of the day.

But just remember - we’re a club that give people a chance. Big names may not work and could be costly.

Jones brings a fresh change, less pressure and an emphasis on teamwork #SaintsFC
From watching Saints this season, it was clear that people were pulling in different directions.

Jones is a fiery character and I’m sure he can get that team spirit back.

We’ve got to become a nasty team to play again - that’s what he has produced at Luton #SaintsFC
Jones has done his best work at Luton - against the odds.

Saints are always working against the odds in the Prem given that they have to compete with bigger budgets from most teams.

#SaintsFC
This is Sport Republic’s first manager choice.

After appointing Dean Smith and Thomas Frank at Brentford, I trust a group of people with Rasmus Ankersen involved.
#SaintsFC
In January, I would expect Saints to try and add a bit more experience.

It seems Jones prefers a mix of youth and older players

#SaintsFC
This is how Jones’ team were defending at the weekend.

That fight has been missing from our team this season. I’m sure he will get our players fired up again and give them fresh ideas to get stuck into.

He’ll also have the World Cup break to work on things fully #SaintsFC
Happy to debate on here and please hit me up with your views too.

I do understand the name is not the most attractive one.

But his work at Luton cannot be overlooked. He’ll get us fighting for the points we need #SaintsFC
