(1/9) Clarification Thread 🧵 about a video of mine that went viral.
I understand that those who are unfamiliar with this hadith would find my example problematic and perhaps I could have used a different similitude. But as demonstrated in the hadith it is not uncommon.
(2/9) I want to also make it clear that my speech does not entail a declaration that scholars who took this view in the past to be people of shirk, rather I was teaching the severity of the practice.
We respect the ijtihaad of scholars & it would be wrong to call them Mushriks
(3/9) Here you have some of the statements of the great Hanbali shaykhs Abdulqadir Jeylaani speaking about not turning to the creation but going straight to #Allah
(4/9) Also I want to make a point about the 2 scenarios I mentioned;
1) Invoking the most greatest & most honourable man ﷺ to remove your hardships in times of difficulty & to fulfil your needs, this = Major Shirk
2) Requesting From the Prophet ﷺ to ask Allah is an issue…..
(5/9) …..that even our scholars differed on.
A) Major shirk
B) A misguided innovated practice.
I am pointing this out for the sake of fairness & honesty.
(6/9) I take responsibility for not mentioning the other view as the time was running out for the program, and especially at the end it was rushed, this is evident in the 3.5 hour seminar.
Having said that, The majority who are kicking off online mainly have an issue….
(7/9)…with the first scenario I mentioned, The fact that we say; “Go directly to the Allah in times of hardship doesn’t mean we hate the prophet ﷺ, it is the safer option & the very point that he ﷺ emphasised when teaching his cuzen ibn abbas; “When You ask Ask Allah directly”
(8/9) To conclude;
I honestly suggest that we respect one another, some Muslims on here r behaving like Mark Zuckerberg, preventing the right to freely express what one believes, I am not enforcing my view, so control your emotions & either speak with knowledge or remain silent
(9/9) Here you have Fhakrudeen saying that which will surprise many of you which clearly shows that MIAW wasn’t the first to make these claims & the statement of ibn Abbas showing that one may believe in Allah but still does shirk in worship.
