Michiganders across the state sent a clear message: we will not align ourselves with election deniers who fan the flames of fear and hate. We said #HateWontWin and we proved it LOUD AND CLEAR by flipping the Michigan Senate for the first time in nearly 40 years. My statement:
We showed how Democrats can win - fair districts, great candidates who represent their unique communities, raising funds down-ballot, and fighting back against hateful garbage.
I want to congratulate our entire caucus for stepping up in this historic win. They ran strong campaigns as problem solvers focused on the issues that matter most to Michiganders.
In contrast, the Senate Republicans ran a cynical campaign with the same tired and divisive playbook. Yesterday’s decisive win tells us one thing: hate won’t win.
It’s time to turn the page on the last four decades, and, together with Governor Whitmer and Democrats in the Michigan House, make Michigan a top destination for people seeking opportunity and a great way of life in the Great Lakes state.
We can retain young people who have been leaving our state, we can create an inclusive economy that attracts new investments by supporting our people, protecting our Great Lakes, giving every child an unparalleled education.
And just as importantly, we can do it while safeguarding critical rights like abortion access and marriage equality.
This win is just the first step in a generational project to rebuild Democratic power from the ground up in Michigan and across the country.

Michiganders are now seeing this dystopian anti-Proposal 3 ad every time they turn on the TV. Horrified? Me too. It’s a new low.
This ad is part of $5.5 million being spent by anti-abortion groups who will do and say anything to stop Michiganders from voting for this historic Constitutional amendment that will protect abortion access and reproductive rights, once and for all.
Here’s the truth: Proposal 3 is 100% about pregnancy and has nothing to do with gender identity or treatment. And opponents know damned well that parental consent is required for ANY medical treatment in Michigan.
A woman in Texas was forced to wait until she became sick with sepsis and on the brink of death before doctors could intervene on a miscarriage of a pregnancy she very much wanted.
There are fearmongering ads encouraging you to vote no on Prop 3 in Michigan, but stories like this will be the reality in our state if the 1931 abortion ban goes into effect. It’s that simple.
Vote YES on Prop 3 and vote for legislators who will uphold the will of voters.
Father Coughlin hosted a radio show during the Great Depression. He commanded tens of millions of listeners not with hope but by spewing antisemitism, hate, and conspiracies that drove a wave of intolerance and extremism.
And he did it from right here in Royal Oak, Michigan.
In the past couple of weeks, Kanye tweeted he was going to go "deathcon 3 on JEWISH PEOPLE" (his caps, not mine), while Trump posted "U.S. Jews have to get their act together...Before it is too late" on Truth Social. Now, Kanye looks to buy Parler. 1/
It should worry everyone that as mainstream social media platforms and media pushback on antisemitism and threats against Jews, their solution is not to walk back the remarks, but to look for new spaces where hate speech can thrive. 2/
And in the wake of these threats, the GOP STILL has the tweet up.
