#SoftWangxianWednesday

It's a warm summer's evening in the Cloud Recesses when Lan Wangji finishes his meeting with his shufu and the clan leader Yao.

Instead of going to Jingshi, he heads towards the meadow where he knows his husband tends to spend his days, enjoying the warm
weather after a particularly harsh winter.

Long before he reaches the place, he hears the sound of the flute. Lan Wangji smiles recognizing the familiar melody.

He indeed finds Wei Wuxian in the meadow, sitting high on a tree branch and playing Chenqing,
the soft melody echoing in the mountains and forests nearby. His face is so focused, Wei Wuxian himself so lost in the melody, that he doesn't even notice Wangji approaching.

So, Lan Wangji just stands quietly nearby and observes his husband for a while. He watches how
Wei Ying's dark lashes brush against his cheeks, hiding the glimmering silver eyes. How the long, slender fingers dance over the dizi and the soft lips blow the air into the flute.

Every time Lan Wangji looked at Wei Ying, it was like for the first time. Every time it took
his breath away. Every time it made his love for Wei Ying only stronger. And every time he struggled to believe this beautiful man was his husband.

The melody flows towards its end and the little fluffy bunnies who had gathered under the tree, stretching their little ears and
listening, hop away one by one.

When Wei Wuxian's lips leave the dizi and his silver eyes open, there's a slight tinge of melancholy in them. But then he notices Lan Wangji standing under the tree and his face flourishes with the brightest of smiles.
"Lan Zhan!" he chimes happily. "Husband, you're here!"

"Mn," Wangji nods and stretches his arms towards him.

Wei Wuxian chuckles and jumps, landing right into Lan Wangji's arms.
No matter how many times Lan Zhan catches him, Wei Wuxian still feels pleasantly surprised.
"I missed you, Lan Zhan," he says hiding his face in Wangji's hair, his voice small and whiny. "You shouldn't leave your poor husband alone for the whole day."

"I'll make it up to Wei Ying," Lan Wangji's timbre is soft and warm, his arms draped around Wei Wuxian's waist.
Wei Wuxian grins, satisfied with the promise of a reward.

"How about we stay here and show your little bunnies something worth seeing?"

"Shameless," Lan Wangji mutters and finally puts Wei Wuxian down.
Wei Wuxian sighs drawing his lips into a pout. "Lan Zhaaan, you've been gone for the whole day. Can't you indulge your husband a little?"

Lan Wangji smiles. One of those small but warm smiles, reserved only for his Wei Ying. He then presses a small kiss on his
husband's forehead.

"I will indulge Wei Ying all night long if that's what he desires," Lan Wangji places a loose strand of hair behind Wei Wuxian's ear. "But first, Wei Ying needs dinner."
Wei Wuxian sighs again, realising that he'll get nowhere with this. "So boring, Lan Zhan. But I love you nevertheless."

"I love Wei Ying too," Lan Wangji replies and this time kisses him on the lips.

When they draw back from each other, Wei Wuxian's eyes shimmer with mischief.
"What if I refuse to go, though?" he asks, his fingers playing with the collar of the Wangji's white robes. "Will Lan-er gege throw me over his shoulder and carry me there with force?"

"Mn, he will," Wangji nods with all the seriousness he can muster.
"Lan Zhan!" Wei Wuxian's eyes widen in an exaggerated shock. "You wouldn't dare! I am a respected cultivator and–"

Before Wei Wuxian can finish, he is lifted and thrown over Wangji's shoulder. He lets out a small yelp of surprise and then laughs as Lan Wangji begins to
to carry him away.

"Such a brute I have for a husband," he teases and feels Lan Wangji's hand squeeze his ass. "How will my pride recover from this?"

Wei Wuxian keeps spouting nonsense all the way to jingshi.
Only when the door is closed, Lan Wangji puts Wei Wuxian down and fixes his robes.

The smaller man snakes his arms around Wangji's waist and leans closer.

"Won't you hurry up and kiss your husband?" he asks with a smile. "I feel all dizzy from you carrying me like that."
Lan Wangji is happy to indulge and places another kiss on the soft lips. But then he draws back.

"Dinner, Wei Ying," he reminds.

"I have my dinner here already," Wei Wuxian smirks, his hand sneaking behind Wangji's robes, searching for the waistband of his trousers.
It takes all Lan Wangji's inner strength not to throw Wei Ying on the bed and fuck him until he cries. But the mighty Hanguang-jun manages to overcome his desire.

He grabs Wei Wuxian's wrist before the hand gropes further down.

"Food first," his tone is laced with warning.
Wei Wuxian sighs and withdraws his hand.

He washes his hands in a bowl and then drags himself to the table. Mumbling something under his nose, he sits down heavily and crosses his arms on his chest.

The servants have already prepared everything for them.
In the middle of the table sits a big pot. There are two empty bowls next to it and two spoons also.

"What's that?" Wei Wuxian asks while trying to peek into the pot, but Wangji stops him placing his palm on the lid.

"Something I made for Wei Ying this morning," he replies.
"You made it?" this Wei Wuxian seems genuinely surprised, his previous anger dissipated already.

"Lan Zhan, what is it?"

Lan Wangji picks up one of the bowls and removes the lid from the pot. With a large ladle he scoops the soup and fills the bowl.
Wei Wuxian's eyes widen even more as he stares at the shapes swimming in the liquid.

"Is that..."

"Mn."

Lotus root and pork rib soup. Wei Wuxian feels his eyes water at the sight, but he quickly swallows his tears down.
He looks up at Lan Zhan. "You made it for me?"

Wangji places the bowl in front of Wei Wuxian and nods.

"Mn. I got the recipe from Jiang Wanyin."

Wei Wuxian picks up the bowl and the spoon and stares at the soup for a while, his expression serious and a little bit haunted.
He then scoops a spoonful and gives it a taste.

His eyes widen with a gasp. And then he begins to gobble it down as if his life is depending on it.

"Wei Ying, slow down," Lan Wangji warns. "There's more."
But Wei Wuxian doesn't slow down. He eats it so fast as if he's been starving for days. With every spoon he devours a new tear streams down his cheeks and Wangji grows worried.

"Wei Ying, if it's bad..."

Wei Wuxian shakes his head, unable to speak. More and more tears are
running down his face and Lan Wangji is now terrified.

Once Wei Wuxian has finished his bowl, he places it on the table. He tries to smile at Wangji, but a sob forces itself out and Wei Wuxian clasps a hand in front of his mouth to stop the next one.
Lan Wangji is next to him immediately, drawing him in his arms. Wei Wuxian still fights it for a while but unable to stop his sobs, he buries his face against his husband's neck and cries.

"I'm sorry, Wei Ying," Wangji rubs his back soothingly and kisses his hair. "I'm sorry."
Wei Wuxian cries for a while, his slender frame trembling in Lan Zhan's arms until his cries die down at last and his breathing evens out.

"What are you sorry about, silly?" he asks after some time, still hiding his face – his voice gone rough from crying.
"It's not good," Lan Wangji replies while cradling his husband's head, his fingers running through the dark strands. "You shouldn't have eaten it."

Wei Wuxian shivers again and draws deeper into Wangji's arms.

"I'm not crying because it's bad, Lan Zhan," he sniffles,
his fingers strangling the life out of his husband's white robes. "I'm crying because it tastes like shijie's soup."

"It's been a long time since I..."

Wei Wuxian's voice breaks off at the end of the sentence. But this time he's quiet. Allowing Lan Zhan to hold him tight.
The crying has left him cold and he draws all the warmth he can from his husband's body.

Lan Wangji regrets it. Regrets the idea. Regrets making Wei Ying sad.

Feeling the shift in his mood, Wei Wuxian draws back at last and looks at his husband – Wangji's eyes are downcast.
"Hey, look at me," he speaks while lifting Lan Wangji's chin up with his index finger.

The golden eyes meet his, Wangji's gaze filled with guilt and remorse.

"My little fuddy-duddy," Wei Wuxian sighs and shakes his head. "It took me by surprise. I never thought I'd taste that
soup again. That's why I was crying. Not because you made it."

"Nevertheless, I upset Wei Ying," Wangji replies. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done it."

"Aiyah, Lan Zhan," Wei Wuxian smiles warmly and presses his forehead against his husband's.
"You don't understand, do you? Things like these are bound to make me a little sad sometimes, but they also make me happy because it shows how much you care about me. You made me the lotus root pork rib soup for me, Lan Zhan! You know what that means, right?"
Lan Wangji draws back and looks at his husband in confusion. "What?"

Wei Wuxian smiles so brightly it makes Wangji's heart fill with warmth. "You'll be forced to make it often now."

The golden eyes watch Wei Ying carefully for a while to make sure his words are genuine.
"If that's what Wei Ying wants."

"I do."

Lan Wangji takes Wei Wuxian's face between his hands and kisses away the wet trails left behind by the tears.

Wei Wuxian closes his eyes, letting his husband pepper his face with kisses, his lips drawn into a small blissful smile.
When he opens them again, Wangji's gaze is warm and full of love.

"I love you so much, Lan Zhan," he says and places a gentle kiss on his husband's lips.

"I love Wei Ying too," Lan Wangji replies with a smile.
They kiss for a while – tender and loving – until the kisses begin to grow heated. But this time it is Wei Wuxian who pulls back. He lifts his hand and gently brushes his fingers against Wangji's cheek.
"How about you have some soup too, my dear? And then you can indulge my poor heart."

Wangji smiles tightening his arms around Wei Wuxian's waist and places a quick peck on his lips.

"Mn. Anything for Wei Ying."

“Isn’t it Lan-fucking-Zhan?” Wei Ying smiles shouting over the loud music filling the club.

But his silver eyes are devoid of any light when they take in the familiar features of Lan Zhan.

Thirteen years.

There's a knock on the door while Wei Wuxian changes into his night robe.

Strange, he thinks. Lan Zhan would never knock.

He crosses the room cautiously and opens the door, finding Jiang Cheng standing outside with Lan Wangji fully leaning onto him.
"What the..." Wei Wuxian opens his mouth but his husband's expression distracts him.

Lan Wangji's face is drenched in tears. He is already half-asleep, but the immense pain in his expression is still present.

"What did you do?" Wei Wuxian asks and wraps his arm around Wangji's
waist, taking him from Jiang Cheng.

"He had only one cup of wine," Jiang Cheng scowls. "The next moment he's like this."

Wei Wuxian sighs, bending slightly under his husband's weight.

"Why is he crying? I swear, I'll beat your ass if..."

Today's the day when the tables in the Cloud Recesses break under the countless jars of Emperor's Smile. Today's the day when everyone gathers around one man. His husband, son, family, friends and disciples are all there.
The man who laughs while being showered with so much love, his silver eyes glisten and smile in the light of the lanterns and candles.

He beams as sunlight itself and relishes in the attention and adoration from everyone around him as he feels content and at home at last.
And he wipes away an occasional tear, feeling overwhelmed by all the love he's receiving and remembering briefly those who could not be there with him today.

Today's the day when the Lan rules are put aside and when the Cloud Recesses vibrate with voices and music. When people

Wei Ying breezes into the Library Pavilion like a storm. He shuts the door behind and unleashes a loud moan of despair, slumping against it.

"Lan-er gegeee!" his voice is high pitched, his eyes big and just as wild as his messed up ponytail.
Lan Zhan's golden eyes dart up from the junior essays he's been grading, searching frantically for an injury on his husband. But he finds none.

Wei Ying runs across the library and throws himself at Lan Zhan who catches him in his arms, nearly spilling the ink all over
the table.

"Lan Zhaaaan, it's horrible," Wei Ying complains, clinging to him like a thistle and hiding his face in his husband's neck – his wet bangs tickling Lan Zhan's warm skin.

"Wei Ying, what happened?" Lan Zhan tightens his arms around the shivering frame,

Wei Ying wakes up in the middle of the night. He can feel Lan Zhan stirring next to him.

Rubbing his tired eyes, he sits up and finds his husband getting dressed.

"Where are you going in the middle of the night, Lan Zhan?" he frowns grabbing the man's arm.
But he doesn't get to say much more than that as he's being swept up with a yelp and carried out of their room.

"Lan Zhan?" Wei Ying smiles, wrapping his arms tighter around the taller man's neck and dangling his legs. "What's gotten into you tonight? Are you drunk?"
"Be quiet," Lan Zhan only answers while carrying Wei Ying along the many long open corridors and the bridges of Lotus Pier.

It's a very warm night in Yunmeng. Wei Ying and Lan Zhan had come over all the way from Gusu to see Jiang Cheng. And because Wei Ying had been missing
