When you're faced with a BIG engineering effort, how do you approach development? Before we dove into code for contributing Scalar to Git, we solidified four 4️⃣ development principles that we used to guide our decisions. 🧵 Image
1️⃣ Code speaks volumes. An architectural design on paper isn't enough for solving problems at scale. Before committing to a decision, we would quickly build a prototype and measure its performance. 📈 2/6
2️⃣ Incremental changes > wholesale rewrites. We focused on small changes that solved an immediate need and optimized for reducing our technical debt and creating a better architecture. 3/6

GitHub CEO @ashtom spoke at @wearedevs recently, and shared his thoughts on the big changes ahead for developers.
“There will be greater change in the next 5 years than in the last 40. We are entering a fundamental transformation of software development as we know it…and I think it will make us all happier.”
“In fact, in files where Copilot is enabled, we are already seeing nearly 40% of the code being suggested by Copilot. In five years, I predict that number will be 80%.”

What does effective communication for developers look like? @iMeluny has some thoughts. A thread 🧵
First, start by asking yourself: “What do I need this person to do?”

Be specific. Writing “Please review” may not get the same result as “Please review for grammar or accuracy.”
How much context do you need to provide?

Keep instructions concise, but not curt. Messages that are too short, and without sufficient detail, can be easily misinterpreted.
