it's a pity wei ying's talents and skills are wasted at yunmeng tech. he's a secretary, with no power or means to actually express himself and put his great ideas out there.

the jiangs are not letting wei ying's potential help them. wei ying is wasting away.

one day, lan wangji manages to get wei ying to meet him on his day off and there, lan wangji urges wei ying to air his own opinions on the collaboration project between the lans and the jiangs and wei ying, after much hesitation, begins to put forward his own opinions.

lan wangji falls in love with the omega all over again.

and he decides that it cannot go on like this.

the next few months, instead of working on the collaboration, lan wangji starts working on buying out yunmeng tech instead.

it's easy, really. the jiang family are not very united, so it's easier to break them. yu ziyuan's temper is her biggest downfall as she pisses off the wen ruohan, a rival that had been mostly silent until yu ziyuan triggered a sleeping lion.

yunmeng tech's stocks plummet not long after.

(if lan wangji had any role to play in that, he was mum about it).

he offers to buy yunmeng tech and watches in great satisfaction as the jiangs sign the deal.

and he witnesses yu ziyuan's fury ln wangji makes wei ying the new head of Jiang Tech.

he watches his omega take charge, if not a bit hesitantly, still scared of pissing the jiangs off.

lan wangji had spent months coaxing his wife (they fell in love along the way,

with lan wangji not even having to try to pursue wei ying too long because the omega reciprocated his affections willingly) to take the new position.

"but lan zhan, how can i do that? i owe so much to them for–"

"wei ying owes them nothing." lan wangji cut him off.

"jiang cheng will never talk to me again." wei ying murmured against his chest.

'good', lan wangji wants to say. he doesn't forget that jiang cheng is not related to wei ying by blood, and hence he's very much a threat to lan wangji, being an alpha.

"he will, if he knows what's good for him. if he hurts wei ying, he shall have no position at jiang tech." lan wangji says sternly and wei ying sighs.

"lan zhan...why even go through so much trouble for silly me! you know i was happy being a secretary!!"

"i was not. wei ying's talent was being wasted and they did not treasure you like you're supposed to be."

"ah, lan zhan, you flatterer!!! take responsibility!"

"mn. always."

wei ying would never say it out loud but a very teeny tiny suppressed part of him feels elated by the way his alpha cares so much about him. so much that he's willing to buy a company just for him.

what he doesn't know that lan wangji will be willing to go to extreme lengths just to make sure that the smile on wei ying's face never fades away.

lan wangji doesn't care if there are casualties.
