On the one hand it’s all marvellous entertainment. On the other, the curtain has been drawn back and we get to see just how debased and contemptible those in public life now are.
These are people who steer the development of law and policy in the UK. They are either deeply stupid or deliberately malign. In the case of Nicolson it looks like the first. Either gender identity theology has directly attacked their abilities to think rationally, or
Their adherence to it has allowed a stage on which delusion can be paraded. Even men I once admired, such as John Oliver have fallen victim to this. It is like a virus: one that seems to attack the brain.
So no wonder #LawFare isn’t working as I hoped. You can’t pet a dog with rabies or take it for a walk. It’s no longer a creature with the essential qualities of a dog. It’s fascinating but also terrifying.
The @TheBARPod postulated that just as with ‘multiple personality disorder’ we will see a peak and then a trough. I do hope they are right. But this collective delusion seems different. It’s grip on public life seems much more deeply rooted. We will see.

The talk by self identified academic Hannah Hirst causes me great unease and I have finally realised why. Again, as is typical from those who support medical transition, no mention is ever made of the AGE of the child. And this is crucial.
Mermaids have always asserted that if a child - of ANY age - says they are trans, they are trans. Even at 3 years old. But no child of 3 could have any conception of what is meant by social, medical, or surgical transition. Nor could any child of 12. I doubt at 14.
By 16 children have a presumed statutory competence in most areas - not alcohol or tattoos! So this makes a nonsense of Hirst’s fears that ‘Gillick competence’ is being rolled back.

Only just joined this and dived in to Michael Longworth talking about ‘rhetoric’ when people talk about dangers of puberty blockers. Concerns about bone density apparently not a problem because it’s a ‘new drug’. Image
'all drugs until they go through a long period of trial have concerns' - but we should be focusing on the immediate distress of the 'young person'. Puberty blockers have a 'therapeutic aim'. His aim is to 'challenge notions of fact and think about agendas... which are harmful'.
Maybe I missed the reference to the Cass Review, the NHS England specs and the Swedish experiences...

Now closing subs from KM KC for @ALLIANCELGB. The most important question is 'what are the purposes of the charity' - from answer to this flows everything else. KM says the charitable objects are clear and unambiguous. As CC found, fall within section 3(1) of the Charities Act.
Therefore no justification for stepping outside the documents to interpret the purposes. Nor do Mermaids allege the constitutional documents are a 'sham'. There is a very high threshold to that test - document is no more than piece of paper, signed with intention to deceive.
This case must therefore proceed on the basis that the expressed articles of the charity are true and set out the charitable objects. Absent allegation of 'sham' it is not open to Mermaids to declare its not honest.

Indeed my feelings are hurt that expression of my lawful protected speech is deemed ‘hateful’ and ‘violent’. But that isn’t the point. The point is that UK law protects the manifestation of my protected belief and Eventbrite is thus unlawfully discriminating against me.
And not only that, but the contempt shown by Eventbrite for the laws of the country in which it operates is a direct threat to our democracy. Parliament has decided my belief is protected. This is the will of the people. Eventbrite was not elected and is not accountable.
The only way to make Eventbrite accountable is through the court. I hope you can support me. Even if I don’t ‘win’ a legal action, it gives me a platform to raise awareness with law and policy makers democracythree.org/campaign/stop-…

The audacity! @ALLIANCELGB criticised for 'attacking' Mermaids.

So remind me again how Mermaids operate? What it has publicly said about groups it doesn't like?

If Mermaids 'wins' this action, they have opened the door to their own de-registration.

Good.
Criticised for saying Mermaids is homphobic and dangerous. Truth hurts I guess. It's own witnesses demonstrated the truth of this.
Yes. Those of us who consider Mermaids child abusers do indeed wish to shut them down and cut their funding. There is now a wealth of evidence to show that this would be in the public interest. Raising these concerns is not an illegitimate attack.

Eventbrite has no power to cancel events. It is a platform for selling tickets. On that level it has the lower to mildly inconvenience us. What is far more significant is the message it sends - that private companies may impose their own moral standards, without accountability.
When the imposition of these ‘standards’ - as is the case in the UK - means the company attempts to compel people to contract out of the laws of their own country, that is a direct threat to democracy.
The Eventbrite terms of service appear to suggest that I must accept any dispute between us is governed by the laws of the state of California. I don’t accept that. Any operation which purports to make a profit in the UK off UK citizens, must obey our laws.
