Yesterday, a Texas federal judge struck down 922(g)(8) while saying that "[t]his Court's opinion says nothing about whether a state court could remove someone's guns through conditions of release or a restraining order." storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.usco…
"But if the Second Amendment can be read separate from the First as the Government argues, the history of disarming someone because of political allegiance oaths could be used to justify disarming political dissidents today."
"Another problem is that § 922(g)(8) prohibits possession of a gun even if the state court order doesn't. Indeed, § 922(g)(8) does not require that the court order prohibit possessing a gun."

A police lobbyist said the original bill would have basically banned retired police from carrying everywhere in the state. A committee member then asked if that means the bill will ban everyone else from carrying almost everywhere instead. The lobbyist acknowledged that it will.
One of the committee members is pointing out that the state is using laws disarming Native Americans and Catholics as historic support for this bill.
One of the speakers pointed out that the committee members said that 300,000 people have applied for carry permits, but the speaker from the court system said at the hearing that they expect 11,000 applications by December.
