Which means things will, by design, get less traction
It encourages more intimate communication rather than the virtue shouting that Twitter feeds on
Some may think it is a bit more boring- THIS IS BY DESIGN

A lot of people are intimidated by the friction of joining and learning it (and remember that mastodon builds friction into the system- this is a feature, not a bug)
But once you know a few things, it is easy
First, you have to pick a server
A lot of people hate this

Think of the whole server thing as picking your email provider- each will differ slightly, but it will give you access to everyone in the system
The easiest way I would do this is join a server with folks you know
Yesterday was the 1-year mark from the last time I had a drink
I'm gonna put a few thoughts down here about why I did this and what it has been like for me to be sober for a year after an adulthood of alcohol being a major part of my life
1/
First, sobriety is not for everyone
I am jealous of folks who can have a reasonable relationship with alcohol
And if I see you IRL I will still want to go have a drink with you, even at breweries and wine bars- I love that stuff
2/
Alcohol has always been an integral part of my adult life
It was how I unwound
"work hard, play hard" sort of thing
It was never a problem, never interfered with my work, etc
Family events always included alcohol
But there were a lot of days where I didn't drink at all

There is a Supreme Court case (Talevski v. Health and Hospital Corp) that originated in Indiana that has major implications for federal safety net programs
This thread will outline the details and end with an advocacy opportunity
If you follow me you know I am from Indiana and a big proponent of #HoosierTwitter
This case originates in Indy, which is why I am so aware of it- but it has nationwide implications and now is the time we need to put on pressure to drop this case
Indiana needs your help

This case is complex and I am not going to get into the weeds (plus I am not a lawyer)
It revolves around the Health and Hospital Corporation (HHC), a government entity that is a nursing home juggernaut in Indiana
