Okay… so I have a little issue with the R&B categories. Strong categories but I believe some political gaming and miscategorization took places from more deserving R&B records. The Kenyon & Summer Walker omissions are glaring. #grammys
I also want to see what we can do to expand these categories a bit. 5 albums in categories is simply not enough for the amount of music out now. #grammys
Lol @ the ROTY category. Gotta love the Grammys. #grammys
It’s funny because I know the exact projects I’ll more than likely be nominated for in 2024. #grammys
Not mad at the Gospel categories. At all. Congrats to the newbies @marandarcurtis & DOE. Well deserved! It’s nice seeing different expressions of Black Gospel present in OUR categories. #grammys
No Best Engineered Album nomination for Renaissance is insane. Stuart White deserves. #grammys
Ryan James Carr deserved a nomination for his remixed work on Usher’s My Way 25th anniversary album. #grammys
Being Black on a roadtrip is one of the eeriest things ever. We can see 400 years of trauma in one road trip. Like… the cotton fields are still here. Acres of cotton. And you just know. You pass certain trees and just feel sick. You cross certain town lines and just get scared.
I’m not surprised when I come across Black folks who have anxiety on the road, especially when it gets dark. The fright of the night… seeing the shadow of trees in the dark night. Seeing the emptiness of open fields.
My care for Black folks NOW is so strong because I know that even though we are removed from our past (by way of natural years), we still feel it like it was literally yesterday. While also feeling our present and mourning a future that will also look the same.
Eh nah. This has more to do with how white women choose to infantilize themselves while Black women have no choice but to be adultified. Beyoncé’s debut (at 22) sounded more mature than Taylor’s 10th album (at 32).
White women almost have to do something drastic (see Xtina, Britney, & Miley) in order to break their infantilized mold. Swift has repeatedly decided not to do that. I’ve been looking reactions and you should see the way her fans get excited at her using profanity…at 32.
Even thinking about “Anti-Hero”— she, unconsciously or maybe consciously, has leaned into being a victim of life in a way that ONLY white women get to be.
