I'm all for giving Normie-dom their credit. I want a normie populism. But here’s the simplest way I can put it. DeSantis as a post-Trump figure that can unite the party can win. DeSantis cast as “purifier of wicked GOP” will lose. twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
People want this cathartic moment and it will never come. The ten percent of Republicans who won't vote for Kari Lake will not get to turn around and say, "Hey, if you liked Kari Lake, we don't want your support" and expect to win.
The reason DeSantis can put together a coalition like he did is that a lot of populists genuinely like him, as do a lot of older school conservatives, and a lot of independents. The candidate is what they can agree on.

Overwhelmingly white conservative commentators are absolutely sure this is only meant to appeal to (the icky sort) of white people. But, it seems to be a good way to attract more votes from non-college men of all races.
