3/x open the app and “sign up”. Here you will pic a server. For most #TwitteRx folks that’s med-mastodon.com. Search for it and give it time to “pop up”.
Then create your email and password.
4/x your in and ready to start connecting and posting.
- fill in your profile, it’s a bit different that Twitter with more space, opportunities to add more links and content. But very similar
5/x find people to connect with. Two most common pharmacy hashtags are #TooteRx and #MastodonRx
6/x #MastodonTips
- handles include your server name in the second AT symbol
- use boosts frequently. Favorites don’t feed an algorithm because one doesn’t exist
- it’s truly social, so interact, chat & engage
- you will only see content from peeps following like PG Facebook
7/x #Mastodon lingo
Toot = tweet or post
Boost= retweet
Favorite= heart (remember it doesn’t share)
Instance = your server/ local timeline
Fediverse = all the servers connected
Notes:
- there is no retweet w/ comment
- there is no algorithm
- there are no ads
- it’s moderated
8/x if you choose the #MedMastodon server, it comes with AWESOME emojis! You can find them in the apps emoji button not in your keyboard emoji button
9/9 It’s seems daunting but within minutes of signing up you’ll be up and posting. Please be aware it’s an open source product meaning it’s not 100 stable, but it does work well and is community supported. The med-mastodon server manager is a saint give him credit
