As a #BigLaw survivor, I understand the myths and mystique built up around "hardcore" working.
They're all bullshit. 🧵
Life is not about work.
Family, self-care, and friends are where most of life's joy comes from. Work can be important and serious without being everything.
Commitment does not come from pain.
Working yourself to death does not prove your job is worth caring about. Commitment to a company and a job comes from actually caring about the people you work with and what you're trying to accomplish together.
You can be both successful and decent.
Being a source of pain for yourself and others does not make you important. Being decent and caring builds true teams that step in to help each other.
Not everything is an emergency.
Some deadlines can slip. Some work can be deprioritized. Because some things actually are emergencies and when they come you need people with reserves and good will.
