The following corporations own the #HamOnt Greenbelt land that is slated for development:
Multi-Area Developments (DeSantis): 335 acres
Paletta International Corp: 330 acres
Corpveil Holdings/Effort Trust: 225 acres
Marz Homes: 183 acres
Greybrook Realty/Castlepoint: 144 acres
Valery Homes: 104 acres
The Guglietti family (Melrose Investment, Rosehaven Homes): 100 acres
After decades of development freeze and Doug Ford committing to NOT infringing on the Greenbelt, why would these big companies keep such properties OR further buy them up?
These are the people who paid off Doug Ford with 100s of thousands of donation dollars to make this happen.
Doug Ford wants to build in Hamilton so that workers who cannot afford Peel/Halton will move and free up spaces for a Toronto workforce who can't afford to rent a shoebox.
It's all about trying to make Toronto more affordable for a workforce and every surrounding community has to bow to the will of a Label Kingpin/Drug Dealer from Etobicoke.
Oh, wherefore some endangered species threat in these areas like the last habitat of the Goldcrested Titmouse or the Northern Scorchback Bobcat that we could study for a century or so?
Just watched #HamOnt Mayor @AndreaHorwath pull a smooth parliamentary move by referring a contentious vote on LRT privatization from the LRT Subcommittee to Council's GIC so all Councillors will vote on it.
I say smooth because she's publicly committed...
to support Public Transit instead of P3. The staff recommendation to privatize at the sub-committee may have been defeated and Councillor @CameronKroetsch's motion to keep public operations would've been the (on record) recommendation of the sub-committee to be forwarded to GIC.
In other words, the Mayor wanted cover on her vote. The more conservative GIC will likely support staff's privatization recommendation (which she seems resigned to) and now she gets to vote against privatization knowing the rest of the Council will likely uphold privatization.
To all of my comrades in @psac_afpc who are disheartened at social media posts which are disparaging to your struggle for fair wages and working conditions: HOLD THE LINE!
Anti-worker sentiment is spawned by right-wing, neo-fascist politicians who play politics of division.
All of those who are disparaging you are also working class people whose working conditions and wages will likely ALSO benefit from your fight.
They are those who would rather believe that their prosperity is being hampered by yours when it's, in fact, the exact opposite.
The public NEVER likes public sector strikes! If they want to end the strike quickly, all of their vitriol and hatred should be spent in motivating the government to get you back to work with a fair deal that keeps you at least caught up with inflation.
As a follow-up to my post about the protest threatened by a No Trespass order at @flyyhm, I filed a request to speak to the City's Hamilton Airport Committee regarding procedures, authority and scope of Trespass orders.
The first response back was from the City Clerk's office stating: "(9) Communications respecting labour relation matters, conduct of a member(s) of staff and matters before another body (i.e. Police Services Board) will not be placed on the Standing Committee Agenda and...
...will be forwarded forthwith by the City Clerk to the relevant City Department or body for consideration and appropriate action.
I will be forwarding on your request to the appropriate staff department for a response."
Speaking here as an individual and not on behalf of the @hamiltonlabour, who hasn't even considered an endorsement process for the municipal elections yet, I just want to outline some of the things I'm happy and excited for in the #HamOnt October municipal elections.
Obviously @jayotied for Public School Board Trustee running in Wards 6 & 9 is closest to my heart and part of necessary change at the HWDSB trustee level.
We'll be on the streets starting next week and campaign donations can be sent by e-Transfer to jayedingtontrustee@gmail.com.
We're also looking for sign locations in Wards 6 & 9 (East Mountain and Upper Stoney Creek) if you know anyone who lives there.
We marched with a bunch of stalwart protesters in front of the Cargojet facility at the Hamilton airport this evening where @fordnation was holding a rally for all of his supporters.
Learning quickly that Cargojet had given a written trespass order to be able to remove people from their property, we also gleaned that there was no order on the general airport grounds and proceeded to walk back & forth across the entry street for over an hour slowing everyone.
Eventually, one of the conservative fixers for the event called in the favours he needed to get the Hamilton Airport Authority to agree to a trespass order as well. It was at that point, after holding cars up for over an hour, that we decided to slowly make our way off property.
