"hi evie! i am planning to go to uni soon and i am still confused on what i should go for. i saw that you're studying law (sorry if I'm wrong) and i was wonde..." - I am, I’m in my last year of law school! And it was a lot of things. All of m... #tellonymtellonym.me/cataclymicevie…
I would also say that law school should definitely not be your solution if you’re graduating from college with a liberal arts degree you don’t know what to do with. If you want easier, cheaper job security, take the MPRE and get your masters in something business related.
But as you can imagine, most lawyers are strong writers, which was another thing that drew me to the profession. It’s also not going to be like a masters program: it is professional school. Think the same level of intensity as medical school or a doctoral program.
If you’re in high school or undergrad and you want to potentially go to law school: take classes that develop your writing and analytical skills, and prioritize your GPA.
The LSAT prep classes are also usually worth the money!

let me tell you i had my last counseling simulation today and i am WASTED as a lawyer i'm a COMEDIAN
we had to pick a model personal injury case to simulate based on a disney film, and I chose to be a restaurant customer from the movie Ratatouille
we had to go in pairs in front of the class and when i tell u i had them ROARING with laughter
my partner: and what happened after that
me: the food was so wonderful, i had to meet the chef--and do you know who they brought out?!
her: i--
me: a RAT!!!!
her: and then what
me: I fell from my chair, got a concussion, and the next thing I know I have a virus you can only get from being in contact with rats. they wouldn't even give me a refund!!!
her: why?
me: they'd have to refund everyone because the RAT MAKES ALL THE FOOD!!!
You know, this is just me, but back when I was a new Danmei fan…if I encountered something I didn’t quite understand, I went out of my way to learn more about it from other people in that space. I didn’t attack the author or the genre itself.
Like I’m not gonna say the genre is perfect, no genre is, but labeling and attacking something when you haven’t taken the time to understand it from the perspective of the people who make it is wrong.
You notice it the most from younger anime fans getting into the genre and assuming it’s the same thing, and…it’s not.
Different culture, different context, and for better or for worse, anime has slowly become more catered to international audiences. Danmei is definitely not.
OKAY this is the thread where I’ll be posting my reactions as I read ERHA for the first time! 👍 I’ve read the first few chapters online already, but I decided to stop and wait for the book to come out! Here I go 🏃♂️
First off: the chapter titles sound like it’s always sunny in Philadelphia and I’m into it
Mo Ran: you know what! I don’t think I’m gonna cut Rong Jiu’s face off. I’m turning over a new leaf!
LRT - in general it also reeks of insecurity to me. If you place this condition on an entire genre MUST rely on claims to authority...it enforces this idea that you don't want more people participating in that space, because you don't think you'll be successful if they do.
and if this was about privilege and the idea that straight people writing queer stories are somehow going to drown out the rest of us...the vast majority of straight people I know read and write stories about other straight people. MAYBE with gay side characters. Who die.
But if it was really about lifting silenced members of the community up, there would be more of a movement behind propping up BIPOC queer writers, who suffer the most from being sidelined. But there is not. This argument only seems to benefit white, queer men/mascs.
If you ever think the attitude about fic authors updating is exaggerated, when I was updating No Paths Are Bound on a DAILY basis, I got comments complaining for the two days I took off posting on Ao3 when I HAD MY WISDOM TEETH OUT.
And like. I write at a speed that is frankly unreasonable as it is. It is not possible to write faster than I already am. I am on track to have posted 1.5 million words on Ao3 this year.
Aside from writer's block, life events, and stress, people expect speeds that are literally not FEASIBLE. It doesn't matter how fast you are, if it's not instant gratification, people are going to complain about it.
I think we need to start gatekeeping the word fetishize because it does not mean what most people on the internet think it means
People projecting sexual or romantic inclinations onto fictional characters might make you uncomfortable if it does not align with your views, but it is **usually** NOT fetishizing. Saying that it is makes the term seem frivolous and less serious than it is.
Fetishizing typically requires a power imbalance and an element of exploitation. It most severely affects bipoc, trans people, minors, and the disabled.
