Hi, distributed systems engineer here.
Systems like Twitter are both resilient, and fragile.
Resilient because they have been engineered to *take some shit* (common failures) constantly. Node down? No problem! Literally designed in.
Fragile because it is so complex that when it breaks, it’s catastrophic. Unexpected failures (often complex, load and timing related conditions), can cause serious damage.

Think harmonic resonance, where “harmless” sound can destroy glass.

How to be an effective DM, a🧵.
Be Thorough!

It’s important to have a coherent world for your campaign, and to get to know your players’ characters. Be sure to ask lots of questions about how they fit into the milieu. Learning their hopes and dreams will help you crush them.
Be Imaginative!

D&D is *Fantasy*, anything can happen! Why have the players be incinerated by a dragon (boring, CO2 emissions!), when they could be recycled into nutrients by a Gelatinous Cube (exciting AND sustainable!)
