DOST-FNRI Supervising Science Research Specialist Lilibeth Dasco says the Expanded National Nutrition Survey aims to provide data on the status of Filipinos’ nutrition for developmental plans to address specific issues.
Dasco says the survey is conducted every five years. The latest data suggests that Filipino children are both dealing with undernutrition and overnutrition.
Dasco says the increasing trend of obesity in the county could be caused by lifestyle and eating patterns of Filipinos which include habits such as frequent alcohol intake and smoking.
Dasco says the country is facing a triple burden of malnutrition. She says the private sectors, including companies in the food and beverage industry, could help by reducing salt and sugar content from products.
Galing Pook Foundation Executive Director Georgina Hernandez says the organization’s Galing Pook awards this year recognizes programs that have been sustained amid the pandemic.
Hernandez says 196 programs joined this year’s search for the most outstanding local governance programs.
Hernandez says the 18 finalists went through the national selection committee and a site validation. Themes of the finalists programs include agriculture, peace and development, and financial literacy.
