The supreme Brexit stooge, Truss was a national joke that was far from funny & cost us dearly.
What she achieved for the cause, a thread 1/9

Prior to the referendum Truss co-authored Britannia Unchained, at the time, the book was largely dismissed as out of touch and misguided, but 10 years on & with Truss briefly in No 10, this pseudo-intellectual epic came to be the guiding ideology of the Tory party. #BrexitPMs

During the leadership campaign, both Truss & the IEA made no secret of their connections & openly revelled in their coup. Building on Johnson’s legacy of think tank integration, she gave the keys to No 10 & our democracy to the lobbyists & let them do as they pleased. #BrexitPMs

Everything was so blatantly corrupt under Truss and not only were no efforts made to hide the corruption, it was banded around like a badge of honour for 6 long weeks. #BrexitPMs

We are now to believe that the lobbyists have over reached and that their policies have all spectacularly imploded, consigning themselves and Truss to a shameful footnote of history. #BrexitPMs

While many of their policies have been reversed, amid the whirlwind of chaos, one key Truss policy remains, the introduction of several Investment Zones, now adapted by Sunak to be centred around our universities. #BrexitPMs

Truss repeatedly called for further deregulation of the existing Freeport sites and tabled the original plans for up to 200 Investment Zones to be added to the 8 Freeports in England and 3 still to be announced in Scotland and Wales. #BrexitPMs

Her main functions were to sow as much chaos as possible, destabilise the economy & precipitate housing market & banking crashes, introduce IZs, shine a light on the IEA as the root of all evil & then collapse, allegedly taking the influence of the lobbyists with her. #BrexitPMs

Truss was set up to fail from the start. Fail her country, fail her party and fail herself. She delivered spectacularly.

The pressure proved too much for the supreme Brexit stooge and she too bowed out, after her world beating shortest time in office. #BrexitPMs

In 2015,Sunak authored the CPS report suggesting Freeports could reignite the UK economy once it was freed from the shackles of European democracy. He co-authored a report for Policy Exchange which sought to classify & map the targeting of ethnic minority voters. #BrexitPMs

Given the chaos we have been subjected to under Truss, Sunak now has the gift of falsely appearing to be a moderate and more distant from the influence of opaquely funded lobbyists. But nothing could be further from the truth. #BrexitPMs

The most immoral, self-serving & corrupt PM the UK has ever seen by a country mile

Prior to the referendum, Johnson was working for the Kremlin-funded Telegraph newspaper & Spectator magazine writing xenophobic, inflammatory & misleading columns, manipulating opinion on immigration & exaggerating alleged over-reach of the EU into UK domestic affairs. #BrexitPM

He was the figurehead for Leave & played a key role in swaying the vote. The platforming of his bogus bumbling Boris persona by every national media outlet & his infamous lies about £350m a week for the NHS & taking back control were crucial in swaying the vote. #BrexitPM

The 2nd to advance the cause was Theresa May.
She was as maliable as Truss & her actions are often overlooked in the longer arc.

Like Cameron, May had been advocating for leaving the ECHR under the pretence of being able to better deal with immigration for years before the referendum.

May did campaign for Remain but her efforts were half-hearted at best. #BrexitPMs

In No 10 May built on Cameron’s surrender to the lobbyists by letting them now directly dictate the direction of govt policy. She platformed work carried out by the Legatum Institute in the House of Commons & appointed Shanker Singham to a govt role as a Trade Advisor. #BrexitPMs

The most deceptive of the 5, he lit the fuse on the Brexit bomb & set our course.

He played on EU scepticism in the Conservative party first to gain his seat in Witney in the 2001 election and then again during the 2005 party leadership contest.

He advocated for leaving the ECHR, falsely claiming it was impeding our ability to tackle immigration. #BrexitPMs

He began the era of austerity, serving to fuel dissatisfaction with life in the UK among the working classes. This played a key role in influencing many working-class voters to believe that Brexit could offer them an alternative to falling living standards in the UK. #BrexitPMs
