Threats of unfair and immoral pay deductions for taking part for action short of striking continue.

This thread exposes those universities that prefer to intimidate their staff than treat them with respect.

Despite an income of £120million, @UniofBradford are threatening up to 100% deductions for staff for action short of striking. This is immoral behaviour. Tag Bradford and make it clear bullying has no place in education.

Shockingly @wlv_uni are threatening up 100% deductions and have claimed removing online materials could constitute a criminal act!  Their vice chancellor earns nearly £300k a year! Contact them, let them know this is a sick joke and unacceptable.

The income at @_BNUni was over £15million last year. Despite this they’re also bullying their staff and threatening 100% deductions. Tag them, tell them to pay their staff properly and drop these threats!

It’s the same story at @KingsCollegeLon  which is also threatening to withhold up to 100% of pay for ASOS. Kings staff and students deserve better than bullying and intimidation - take a stand and let Kings know you won’t tolerate this.

Another uni threatening 100% cuts for action short of striking is  @LJMU. Shame on them! They can afford to pay their VC £280k, but when it comes to staff all they offer is intimidation. Tag LJMU, tell them how obscene you find this during a cost of living crisis.

Shockingly Stafford Uni have told staff that if they don’t reschedule classes cancelled because of strikes then they won’t be paid for any days until they do @StaffsUni

Staff already lose pay for taking strike action. Resolve the dispute, and stop bullying staff.

Despite spending less on staff than previously @AbertayUni have also said they’ll be deducting up to 100% pay for ASOS

You know the drill, tag them and let them know how morally reprehensible you find this.

The same is being threatened at @Newman_Uni - 100% deductions for action short of a strike.

No other sector seeks to bully and punish staff like this. It’s appalling so many university bosses think this is acceptable. Tag Newman, let them know it’s not.

In Wales @cardiffuni and @SwanseaUni have both reserved the right to withhold 100% of pay.

Bullying and intimidation have no place in education. Let Cardiff and Swansea know this is vile. Ask them to drop these threats and push for a negotiated settlement instead.

. @CanterburyCCUni is also trying to scare staff into not striking by saying they reserve the right to withhold 100% of pay for ASOS.

Staff know and accept striking means 100% lost pay. To threaten this for action short of that is vindictive. Call it off Canterbury.

Staggeringly, @unibirmingham are threatening 50% deductions for ASOS. This is shocking given that their income last year was an eyewatering £758million and the vice chancellor earns £460k a year!
In Northern Ireland @UlsterUni have also chosen to threaten to withhold 100% of staff pay for action short of a strike.

Another university choosing intimidation over compassion. Let them know what you think of this.

Another university that thinks it can get away with 100% deductions for ASOS is @TrinityLaban . Let them know they can’t! Let them know you think their bullying is a disgrace.

We’ve also been told that @YourStMarys have emailed staff in an attempt to intimidate them into not striking this week, and threatening them with the prospect of 100% of pay docked for simply taking part in action short of striking. Gross, unfair, immoral.

Threatening staff with no pay if they don’t work more than their contract.

ABSURD POSITION! If staff are important then pay them what they’re worth and resolve the problem.

Similarly we’ve heard that University of East Anglia @uniofeastanglia have threaten staff with pay docking simply for participating in ASOS. Please tag UEA and let them know how disgusting you find this. Tell them to drop the intimidation.

News in: University of Lincoln @unilincoln is doing the same - threatening 100% pay cuts for action short of a striking.

If only uni bosses invested the same energy into understanding the problems facing their staff, as they do inventing rules to punish them. SHAME!

Prof David Green, who earns £320k as Vice Chancellor of @worcester_uni, has said that members will be docked 100% of their pay for simply taking part in action short of striking. Tag Worcester, tell them and Prof Green that you think this is a disgrace.

I would ask the Minister to point to where UCU have said this, but I know she cannot because the union hasn’t. She should delete her false accusation and apologise. Presenting mistruths as facts in order to fuel a culture war and smear others is beneath someone in her office.
UCU has condemned bullying and harassment, specifically in relation to events at Sussex. Our union has always been a vocal defender of academic freedom, while recognising that this has to be balanced alongside other democratic rights and freedoms.

The legislation being brought forward by the Conservative government will not resolve the fundamental issues at stake. Nor will false smears or weaponisation of this issue in attempt to generate support for it.

UCU members have already demonstrated significant compromise. The ballot that ended strike action was a massive act of compromise. That compromise produced the JEP, & the JEP has vindicated & endorsed the position of UCU members. It has demonstrated the necessity of #USSstrike
The #USSstrike resulted in many of us losing 14 days pay. It required emotional support from loved ones. In some cases it diminished us in the eyes of some colleagues, and in other cases it resulted in punitive actions or threats from our employers.
If compromises are to be made, it is fair to demand they come from @UniversitiesUK & our employers. The JEP makes clear that with minor tweaks USS is sound. As such we need to understand the #USSstrike as employer initiated industrial action. We were left with no choice.

As ever, the excellent @JosephineCumbo has provided a succinct summary of what the recommendations are, & I don't see any need to reproduce that.
I'm v happy to see the disruptive role of Test 1 being acknowledged & criticised. I'm also v happy to see suggestion that employers attitude to risk & the affect this had on the covenant be re-evaluated. Likewise it's good to see assertion that updated data & measures be used.
