🧵I am going to take a risk. The last time I tweeted about the joys of #peasantfood and what we could learn from peasants, I got roundly ticked off by people who wanted to educate me about how bad the life of peasant was, how "very few" of their children survived...
(I wonder where the next generation of peasants came from?) and so on. You learn so much on twitter🙄

I warn such people now, you'll just get muted, so you can shout at me forever.

And I would point out that at least one recent study has revealed, surprise! ...
That people who had a diet high in vegetables and low in meat, and refined sugars, were often healthier than their better off betters. (They look at bones and teeth)

I make no apology whatever for suggesting we could learn from them, and "primitive" societies in general...
In doing so, I am not suggesting we all become peasants, interesting though that might be. You can do a lot of damage with a pitchfork.

I know many of them led miserable lives and died from not enough food...
Nor am I suggesting that people struggling to pay their heating bills, or their mortgage, or energy bill, or who simply struggle home from a long day and don't have the time, should try to cook like this. It probably is a luxury, today.

But people in primitive societies...
need to make the best of what they have; and they are often wise in the ways of doing so. Some of the best meals I have had in different parts of the world, have been their simple dishes. And I've had some very disappointing fare in "posh" restaurants
So this is really for people who have the time, and the interest, and can afford to do it. You get something delicious and don't waste.
I have just eaten a soup, made by Mrs P, inspired by Italian peasants (I don't imagine rich families ate much Ribollita). Like all these folk recipes, every family has its own, usually Nonna's recipe, and it is the best. No one else's is quite as good as Nonna's...
Even though she probably varied the ingrtedients depending on what she had.

Mrs P's included some stock made from a chicken carcass (a packet of frozen or near date wings would do just as well). Plenty of onion and garlic. Some left over (previously cooked) greens...
A couple of potatoes. Two parsnips from a packet of wonky parsnips. Some parsley stalks, chopped up. Olive oil, to taste. Salt and pepper. Most important some crusts of stale crusty bread, chopped up into small chunks, and added in the last ten minutes. Enjoy.

1. The next time you see a Brexit supporter saying that if Brexit fails it will all be the fault of the “Remainers”, consider this; they are dimly discerning an important truth, which they are themselves incapable of understanding.
2. When they won a badly framed referendum, which they did by using misinformation and lying, they believed it gave them license to impose whatever they wanted on the substantial part of the country that did not want it. support.
3. It never occurred to them that they should discuss, listen, and compromise in order to win broad based support. The opposite in fact. So they wilfully decided to impose an “agreement” on the country the majority had not voted for and did not want.

1. Today, the Tory Chancellor will unveil his budgetary proposals to undo the damage done by the Tory govt. The plan won't work. This is why; short 🧵

2.The Tories are fond of telling us that national budgets and economic policy are governed by the same simple, Dickensian rules that govern household budgets. They are not. But the reasons this Tory budget will fail, based on outdated ideas, are not difficult to explain
3. First, you cannot build economic success on ideological beliefs that make you deny the truth. The truth is that brexit has done, and continues to dosevere damage to our economy. I'm not going to give you the figures, you've seen them and they are readily available.

🧵1/7. This did not start as a thread. But it more or less wrote itself.

The Braverman problem is a real test for Sunak, and risks becoming a “hydra” for him. A seasoned and hardened politician would have grasped this quickly…

PM should come clean over Suella Braverman breach - Labour - BBC News bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politi…
Acting fast would have at least given him the initiative and the air of control. He wouldn’t have had to sack her immediately. He could have suspended her “in the light of new information”. Everyone can see he upsets one or other faction of his govt if…
He sacks her, or if he doesn’t. Sacking her immediately calls his judgement into question. But inaction is potentially worse, if the story grows and more information comes out. He then becomes weak and indecisive.

Sunak is not an experienced politician. The balancing…

🧵I don't know if I have sole authorship of this concept, but I think it is one that should receive some attention at this time. It's the concept of

"The well educated fool"
The WEF has great academic achievements;
The WEF therefore knows they are very clever;
The WEF surrounds themselves with people who agree with them, because, obviously, those people are clever enough to recognise their cleverness;
The WEF believes they need not take much notice of most other people, because obviously, they are not as clever;
The WEF thinks other people are not important anyway, because obviously, they lead lives which are far less rich and important;
The WEF can make clever remarks that wound and keep other people quiet;
The WEF believes self doubt and humility are weaknesses;

1/5 I have been trying to unravel the mystery of the plot to destroy the success of "Unboxed/The Festival of brexit."
And by gosh, by diligent sleuthing I have.
I can now accuse the government of committing the crime. It happened like this...
First they decided to hold a "Festival of Brexit". They thought this was a great wheeze, would unite the country and be a lot of fun for Ministers to go to proclaim the great success of brexit.
Unfortunately, they forgot the majority of people in the country did not vote...
for brexit and saw no reason to celebrate. In fact, most were determined not to.

Undaunted, the Tory government set its finest brains to saving the day. And they came up with a plan. Huzzah! They cried.

We will change the name. The B word will not be mentioned, and...
