These are percentile ranks, so all teams' numbers ranked against each other.
Many of these are style metrics, where a higher percentile doesn't equate to "better" (like possession metrics)
Many are performance, such as shots etc
Ulsan, the champions
Strong everywhere. Possession-based team, with the ability to string together the longest passing chains on avg, but also at a decent passing tempo
Jeonbuk.
Very well balanced overall, but perhaps some room for improvement in the defensive (green) metrics ahead of next season.
First time in years they didn't win the title so watch out for them again next season!
Pohang.
Not as possession-oriented as our top 2 teams, but a good defense able to ensure their GK isn't tested too often despite having just above avg possession.
Good going forward as well, love to cross
Incheon
Really interesting team. Not the most threatening going forward, and allow tons of shots, often of high quality. Managed 4th despite that!
Jeju United
One of the most dangerous attacking sides in the league last season, who also liked to be in possession. End to end stuff though, you can see their relatively very poor defensive metrics in terms of opposition shots
Gangwon
Pretty good on underlying defensive metrics but a key one they were pretty poor in... goals conceded!
Suwon FC
We're in the bottom half of the table now. Suwon hardly had possession, hardly pressed, but were pretty clinical when they did break. Look at their ranks for % of passes being forward, passes to final third, & attack efficiency
Daegu FC
Very interesting team. Pretty good in attack and defense, especially for being 8th. Those possession metrics tell you what you need to know! 2nd-lowest avg possession, longest avg pass length, most % of their passes being forward... Fun side
FC Seoul
Possession just for possession's sake at times. When you watch them, you'll see plenty of times where they could take a risk...... but they don't and just recycle to Ki Sung-yueng lol
When they don't have the ball they'll press you for it
Suwon Samsung Bluewings
You can see here that the biggest issue for relegation-playoff-winners Bluewings wasn't necessarily their defense, but their ability to score goals. Not as bad defensively as you'd expect for a team having to win a playoff match to survive
Gimcheon
Overall a fairly balanced style radar but pretty poor in the areas that truly matter. Goals for and against. They allowed a fair few shots of decent quality and while they did well against them, just so many to stop so tons went through
Seongnam
Can you tell they finished dead last lol

@umirf1 One of the big issues football data faces right now is a disconnect between what something is measuring & what it's used for/how it's used
PPDA is a perfect example. It doesn't measure pressure. It's just an avg of the number of passes allowed vs defensive actions...
@umirf1 ... and then each data provider is able to capture different things for example StatsBomb captures pressure events where a tackle wasn't made. Opta doesn't. So PPDA including tackles/interceptions/fouls etc will be higher than PPDA also including pressures!
@umirf1 But then if your data tags pressures.... well now you can actually capture pressure which is what PPDA is attempting to estimate (at times poorly lol)
So possibly using "average pressure events within 10s of a ball loss" may be better
Miguel Rondelli has Cusco FC playing some very attractive football
RB inverts to a 6 in a 3-2-2-3 with the pockets very wide
But not possession for possession's sake. Fluid, 3rd man plays, one-twos, switches, tempo changes...
A good example π
I've watched a ton of them this weekend and working on a longer form analysis, but this is just a taste
Good counter-pressing, varied attacking transitions, pockets are free to roam, some relational tendencies, lots of verticality...
Last season the LB inverted to the left 6
They spend so little time in sustained defense that really the right-sided 6 pushes wide to defend. He defends centrally in transition, then moves wide if they set up their block
The right pocket drops while the left pocket either forms a front 2 with ST or sits behind him
Please note that you will need to uninstall and then re-install the package if you've already installed it before
And IMPORTANT NOTE, you will need ChromeDriver for this to work. I apologize, but I can't be tech support for everyone. Here is that link chromedriver.chromium.org/downloads
The github page has the code you can copy/paste.
Please note that there are several file paths that you'll need to update. Particularly, the path to where you have ChromeDriver installed, as well as team logos (I get mine from wikipedia)
