THREAD: We talk a lot about the #Trinity in the #Complementarian debate in terms of #ESS. But not only do the "Reformed" Baptists in this debate have theological grounds for their stance, they may have soteriological grounds. (1/5)
@SBTS professor and dear friend of @JohnPiper, Thomas Schreiner, who wrote the "Faith Alone" entry in @MattMBarrett's Five Solas series, seems to believe in final salvation by works. This makes sense considering his association with Piper. (2/5)
Schreiner writes on 244-245 in his Pauline theology, "Once we grasp that salvation is not attained apart from human behavior, though it is not grounded on such behavior, we are not surprised to read that Paul views his ministry as the means by which the elect are saved... (3/5)
...Similarly, women must adhere to their divinely ordained role (1 Tim 2:15) to be saved... Paul is saying that women's bearing children and living in their ordained role is one example of living out the godly life necessary to obtain eschatological salvation." (4/5)
So, because works are necessary for final salvation (and not justification, as he writes), women must live in their complementarian role to be saved. This explains much of the compulsion to cling to, and advocate for, complementarianism in Reformed-ish circles. (5/5)
