Why? Because recently, over the past 3 months or so, he’s started to notice something. Well, some things.
Kuroo apparently always has a bottle of water to give Kenma when he’s thirsty. A candy to give Kenma when he asks for it, a band-aid when Kenma has a small gash or a hair tie for when Kenma’s hair is in the way.
Kuroo puts his hand on the corner of the table when Kenma is bowing down to get something. Kuroo always moves Kenma away from the road when they’re walking. Kuroo even bought a game that Kenma mentioned he wanted to try as a joke (not really).
Now, even when Kuroo teases him and puts his face directly from his, Kenma gets so flustered he keeps flicking Kuroo’s forehead away.
Kuroo this, Kuroo that. Kuroo’s always doing something for Kenma no matter how small and it’s frustrating him because he likes it so much
and it makes his heart beat and his cheeks redden whenever.
He wasn’t really like this some couple years back when they were 12 or when they finished highschool. Everything was fine. They were neighbors, then schoolmates, and have been bestfriends all their lives.
Which makes Kenma more pissed when he realizes that he’s finally lost his shit and developed feelings for Kuroo.
When? Who knows? Maybe it was when Kuroo played for the first time with his band in one college event.
He was the bass player, and a damn good one at that. Is that it? Kuroo, playing bass? But he’s been playing in front of Kenma all his life, so why is it different now?
Was it because Kuroo was performing in front of a live audience?
Was it because he’s wearing a tank top that is showing off those damn arms? Or the fact that girls fawning over his best friend irritated him to no end?
Or maybe, it wasn’t irritation but jealousy when he saw those girls giving their number to Kuroo,
as if he’s going to text them.
Maybe he’s loved him all his life and now that there’s actually a gap between them in this big university, the chances of Kuroo finding somebody else triggered Kenma’s heart.
Thus, the start of Kenma noticing everything Kuroo’s been doing with him and for him. No matter how small, Kenma’s somehow found a way to think of it as Kuroo feeling the same way. Maybe Kuroo loves him too? What a joke. What a dream.
Except that it wasn’t.
–
Kuroo’s patient.
Patient with Kenma, if we’re going to be honest.
Because for the past 8 years of his life, he’s been in love with Kenma.
Even if Kenma’s stupid and refuses to acknowledge Kuroo’s gestures as an act of love,
he’s patient that one day, Kenma’s going to figure it all out.
So Kuroo does what he does best. Taking care of Kenma.
Having a bottle of water at the ready, a piece of candy to give, a hair tie for Kenma’s growing hair,
a band-aid for injuries that he’ll never know where it came from, or a game that even though Kenma said he wanted as a joke, Kuroo knows he really did want it.
Kuroo’s patient, and willing to take his time with Kenma. But recently, over the past 3 months or so,
he started to notice something. Well, some things.
Recently, whenever he’s with Kenma, the blonde’s always avoiding his gaze. When Kenma found Kuroo’s hands covering the table corner when Kenma reached down for something, Kenma’s cheeks reddened.
When he moves Kenma away from facing the highway, Kenma looks down and mumbles a thank you, clearly seeing his ears turn red.
Before, when Kuroo teases Kenma by shoving his face in Kenma’s bubble, Kenma usually just ignores him but now,
it’s been a week of his forehead being red from all the flicking Kenma’s doing. Clearly flustered and panicked at the proximity.
Kuroo thinks it started after his first gig. When the set was done, he went over to Kenma but he found his friend with a frown on his face,
obviously irritated and looking over at something. When Kuroo followed Kenma’s stare, he found a group of girls chatting.
He thought it was because they were loud, but he realized it was the same group of girls that circled him earlier and gave their number to him.
Is that what Kuroo thinks it is? Was Kenma… jealous?
Maybe Kuroo doesn’t need to be patient anymore.
Maybe Kenma won’t lose Kuroo, after all.

"what if I cut my fingers off while chopping these onions?"
is what Kiyoomi vaguely heard closing the fridge of Atsumu's kitchen.
He stopped in his tracks and glanced at Atsumu who was nonchalantly cutting up vegetables for a nice team dinner at his apartment.
/what the hell?/ Kiyoomi thought. Atsumu whispered that sentence and shook his head from the thought as if cutting your fingers was something to laugh at.
Something's wrong with the man.
"if a car suddenly speeds up and hits me, then what?"
They were crossing the street. On an intersection at a red light. By impulse, Kiyoomi held Atsumu's arm and dragged him out of the crosswalk in case his dumbass teammate decides to stop moving and actually get hit by a car.
Something about the cold breeze and the wind brushing through Atsumu’s skin made his 80 square meter home melancholic.
Maybe it was the lights that he just turned off, or the gray skies outside. Maybe it was the cup of hot coffee nestled in his hands, or it was the two mugs he set on the table when he was making the drink, only to remember he’s only making one for himself now.
Maybe it was the smell of the hoodie he was wearing or it was the picture frames by the TV stand, or the extra bottle of cleaning agent by the sink. Maybe it was the olive colored paint in the wall,
When Kenma and Kuroo first kissed, it was Kenma who initiated it. In his defense, they had been standing in front of Kenma’s door for about 5 minutes, because Kuroo can’t seem to leave without doing something,
but his feet had been glued to the ground, and his lips sewn shut.
As if their date wasn’t the best date Kenma had.
Impatient, Kenma grabbed Kuroo’s collar, brought his face down and placed a soft kiss on Kuroo’s lips, lingered for a little, until he felt Kuroo kiss back too.
It was slow and sweet. Kuroo with his hands on Kenma’s jaw, lifting his head and Kenma with his hands around Kuroo’s neck.
When Kenma pulled away, he muttered “I enjoyed today, let’s do it again, Tetsurou.”, then he went inside, leaving Kuroo, extremely dumbfounded,
