Based on calculations of his pre-sentence report, the government is seeking a prison sentence of 9.25 to 11 years. Greenberg’s attorney seems to agree with their calculations but argued his client deserves additional credit due to his extensive cooperation. 2/8 #news6
The judge surprised both Greenberg and prosecutors by announcing he believes Greenberg may deserve MORE than the federal guidelines dictate because Greenberg committed so many different, unrelated crimes in this “exceptional” case. 3/8 #news6
The judge did not indicate what sentence he may give Greenberg tomorrow but told the lawyers, “The parties are under agreement about something I don’t agree with.” 4/8 #news6
Greenberg’s lawyer Fritz Scheller told the judge his client has provided information about *27* people including 8 involved in sex crimes. Only 5 have been criminally charged, with 2 more indictments for SBA loan fraud expected in the next month or so. 5/8 #news6
Scheller noted that 7 people named by Greenberg were involved in public corruption, 3 for SBA loan fraud, and 10 for election fraud including “ghost candidates”. Scheller noted that some of the people ID’d by Greenberg were involved in multiple schemes. 6/8 #news6
Federal prosecutors said some cases remain under investigation and that Greenberg’s cooperation in those cases was taken into consideration when they calculated the requested 9.25 to 11 year prison sentence. 7/8 #news6
