Realistically, we always knew Canada was the fourth best team in this group. No surprise that's where they finished. At the same time, they wanted to show they could compete. They wanted to inspire the country.
Clearly, there's still a long way to go. Hopefully the team can learn from this, and build off this, like they did after losing to Haiti at the 2019 Gold Cup.
There's going to be a lot of finger-pointing, but the reality is that everyone needs to be better - players, coaches, the federation - if they truly want to get to the next level and take advantage of the opportunity ahead of them.
While they didn't quite click in Qatar, a front 3 of Davies/David/Buchanan has so much potential. As does a midfield that includes Kone & Eustaquio. There are some very nice pieces in place. But it's not enough. The team needs more. Who's going to step up?
It's been a pleasure to follow this journey over the last 20+ months. From Suriname, to snowbanks, to sweatpants, to Twitch streams, to naked caricatures in Croatian tabloids, what a ride it's been.
