πŸ‘‡πŸ»πŸ‘‡πŸ»πŸ‘‡πŸ»
(...) Currently, I am working as a Senior Specialist in a PICU at the Aster Hospital, Bangalore. It was really an honour to present our study at #EAPS2022. All credits to the PICU team of PGIMER, Chandigarh. I am deeply humbled that we got this prestigious award.
Q: You won the first prize for ESPNIC young investigator, can you tell us a little about the work that won this award? #YoungESPNIC
A: The study was concerned with the weaning strategies used for the liberation of children from invasive ventilation. A spontaneous breathing test is conducted to predict successful extubation in such children. In this study, we compared two methods - CPAP & Pressure Support (…)
(…) We found that a 2-hour SBT with PS was non-inferior to a 2-hour SBT with CPAP in predicting successful extubation, and hence, either methods can be used to conduct SBT. πŸ“š
Q: What are your next plans for future research? πŸš€
A: I have always had a keen interest in Extracorporeal therapies (especially PICU) & Paediatric Organ Transplant because of the remarkable outcomes they can produce in the sickest children. Hence, I wish to increase my knowledge & skills & conduct further research in this field.

We caught up with lead author @MarcoDaverioMD to ask a few questionsπŸ§΅πŸ‘‡πŸ»
Q: @MarcoDaverioMD, why did you & the team decide to do this survey?

A: There was a gap of knowledge on this topic, in fact information about the assessment and management of pain and sedation across European #PedsICU are currently unknown.
Q: How do you design a study when you expect serious variability across the answers?🧐

A: Planning is crucial! We tested, validated & modified the questions. Using closed questions we reduced the variability and facilitated the data analysisπŸ’ͺ🏻
