A sentencing hearing where there was no prosecutor has been 'saved' at the 11th hour by a barrister, already with a heavy caseload of her own, stepping in to do the job - yet another example of legal professionals going above and beyond to keep a crumbling legal system on
track. And when I say '11th hour' it was in fact as the judge was on the point of telling the defendant, in custody, that he would have to wait until the new year to know his fate. The judge said the court was, quite rightly, 'very grateful' to her.
