Can somebody explain to me why this funky HALF-BUILT HOBBIT HOUSE on a cold lake in Michigan is listing for SEVEN MILLION DOLLARS??? No interior pics, 3BRs, 3.5BAs, 3,449 sf., curved roofline. Rapid City is kicking off #FridayNightZillow 🧵 zillow.com/homedetails/95…?
I like it. But it's 1) not finished. 2) It's cold and $7M is warm weather money. What am I missing? Some Michigan reporter needs to head over there and get to the bottom of this pronto. Some Tolkien fan lost all their money in FTX? #FridayNightZillow
I kind of feel bad for whatever dreamer planned their dream house only to run out of money. Turns out there are A LOT of half-built mansions on Zillow. #FridayNightZillow
INVISIBILITY CLOAK HOUSE. Sevierville, Tennessee, you're on #FridayNightZillow! Polished stainless steel mirrored exterior, 2BR, 2BA, 1,152 sf. Designed by a local firm. Yours for $635K. zillow.com/homedetails/97…?
This looks like it would kill A LOT of birds. But the listing says: "Siding will offer a slightly distorted reflection and other deterrents to prevent bird strikes." These are renders of what it will look like when finished in 2023. #FridayNightZillow
Here's a fun one: A PURINA CHOWS building with a massive 25,600 sf., 2BRs and 7BAs has been converted into sort of a Bro Barn with a nice kitchen. Just $550K! Plenty of parking. West Virginia, you're on #FridayNightZillow! zillow.com/homedetails/20…
Nice kitchen, lots of room to stretch out, bit main bedroom. I'm kind of guessing that this is a batchelor pad. #FridayNightZillow
The budget "process" as it is supposed to work is insanely complex. "Regular order" includes so many steps and so much time it would swamp all other action in the Senate the way it operates today.
What we have now is a process that works pretty well *for appropriators and leaders* — they negotiate and put together coalitions to get to 60+/218+ votes, with most of the action out of sight, and one year-end bill compiling the sum of those negotiations every year.
This is the CRAY CRAY BONKERS MCBONKERSPANTS oceanfront mansion of Hawaiian Tropic founder Ron Rice, and this is #FridayNightZillow, back for at least one more night! $5.9999M. 12K sf. Florida, of course! (Warning: Taxidermy & risqué artwork). Let's GO!🧵zillow.com/homedetails/17…?
These chairs are insane. Everything about this room is insane. Zoom in at your own risk. #FridayNightZillow
Like I said, there's a LOT of taxidermy here. And marble. And ocean. And cringe-y photos of models everywhere. #FridayNightZillow
With Cortez Masto's win in Nevada, Democrats could actually see their margins increase by one if Warnock defeats Walker in the Georgia runoff.
An absolute disaster for Republicans who had hoped to get as many as 54 seats with an unpopular Biden and 40-year record inflation.
What's the significance of a Senate majority if the House ends up Republican?
Two words: Merrick Garland.
He would be a Supreme Court justice rather than AG today and Roe v Wade would almost certainly still be the law of the land if Ds hadn't lost the 2014 midterms.
It's going to be a really great time to be a House reporter next year.
I'd actually suggest news orgs allocate additional reporters to cover the House. It's a hard enough place to cover by yourself when there are big margins and predictable results; with razor-thin margins anybody can be Joe Manchin any time. America may hear "Thomas Massie" a lot.
On big votes, it helps if a news org has a reporter w/eyes on each of the 6-7 exits from the House to ensure you get the one person who tanked a bill, for example.
A House with a 1-3 vote margin could be an incredibly unstable thing. Members get sick. Not unusual for some to die. A couple members decide to switch parties or just vote no on the party's priorities Ron Paul-style and you have to beg Democrats for votes.
You could end up with dozens of Joe Manchins on every meaningful vote, but fewer things to bargain with w/o earmarks.
Boehner faced that problem with a larger majority and his playbook was to let the most difficult members have their way on initial House bill and then swallow whatever the Senate passed w/McConnell's blessing.
Ultimately needing Dem votes on bills to keep the govt open.
I think people haven’t fully processed what 5% interest rates will mean for the $31 trillion debt. It’s a simple math equation but it’s sort of like adding a second Defense Department worth of expenses to the budget except you get nothing in return.
When the new CBO scores come out next year I suspect you’ll see eye-popping headlines, but you can do the math for yourself right now.
The Bondholders don’t care how we got the debt (we cut taxes for 20 years while spending more). They just want to get paid.
