It hasn’t even been a month since the Colorado Springs shooting & @nytimes published two op-eds, which are just simply polite liberal versions of transphobia and homophobia. 1/

First #PamelaPaul pines for the liberalism of the 1960s where we were free to be you and me as long as we didn’t talk about sexuality. It’s an appeal to a kinder, gentler time of trans- and homophobia, where we simply didn’t have to exist in the public imagination. 2/

And she keeps talking about “the children.” I wish she’d just be less polite and say what she really means: talk of sexuality with kids is “grooming” them and she’s here to say, no, not on my watch. 3/

And then there is @Tish_H_Warren who reminds me why I left the church so many years ago. Here it is “the devout” who of course will do unto others, unless it’s is baking a cake for a gay wedding, who are under siege. 4/

It’s really unbelievable stuff. Plenty of devout people don’t ask for tolerance for their discrimination as a quid pro quo for us being able to be treated fairly in public life. 5/

In fact, I know many people of faith who would consider this call to “let us discriminate” as a abomination against God. 6/

And then she says this isn’t about civil rights—because racism is real, made by men, but the prohibitions against LGBTQ people are in the Bible. 7/

Let the @nytimes print this stuff, but let’s also call it what it is: grotesque. Paul and Warren in the pages of the paper get to shape a narrative where good liberals and servants of god are under siege, while actual LGBTQ people were murdered in cold blood just weeks ago. 8/

Of course the @nytopinion cannot help themselves, they can’t help but “both sides” even trans- and homophobia in 2022. 9/

But perhaps let the blood dry a little longer, let the time since the funerals linger a little longer before you uplift this thinly veiled distaste, disgust for who we are. End/
