Before you leave Twitter remember how Black women never gave up. They played an active role in the suffrage movement. In spite of their hard work, Black women didn’t gain the right to vote until 50 yrs after the 19th Amendment. Black women fought on all fronts. #FreshResists
Mary Church Terrell was a suffrage activist/journalist and the 1st Pres. of the National Assoc. of Colored Women & charter member of the NAACP. She was also one of the first African-American women to be awarded a college degree. #FreshResists
Hallie Quinn Brown was a preeminent educator, writer, public speaker. She was also an activist in civil rights & suffrage throughout the 19th & 20th centuries. Her parents were both freed slaves & were involved w/the Underground Railroad. #FreshResists
Frances Harper, an orator, 2nd only to Frederick Douglass in terms of prominent Black writers of her era, the poet, essayist & novelist went on speaking tours to discuss slavery/civil rights/suffrage. Donating proceeds to the Underground Railroad.#FreshResists
