The world celebrated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 3rd December, 2022. The @UN recognises Disability inclusion as an essential condition to upholding human rights, sustainable development, and peace and security. @dfcugroup @UNAPD
They further assert that Disability inclusion is central to the promise of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to leave no one behind. The commitment to realizing the rights of PWDs is not only a matter of justice; it is an investment in a common future. @dfcugroup
12.5% or roughly 6m Ugandans are PWDs. 5% of adult PWDs find it difficult to walk. 36% of the PWD population face multiple difficulties that may include walking. It is predicted that PWDs will significantly increase across all domains and age groups by 2050. @dfcugroup @NUDIPU
The Constitution of the Republic of Uganda (1995) as ammended, PWD Act (2020), Building Control Regulations, 2020, Building Control Act 2013, @UN_SDG #SDG10 and #SDG4, UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities @IDA_CRPD_Forum,...
Salamanca Frame of Action on Special Needs Education, UN Standard Rules on Equalization of Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities, 1993, etc. are some of the regulations, declarations and laws put in place to ensure the rights of PWDs are observed and respected. @nuwodu
The rights include, among others, access to services such as financial and banking services that @dfcugroup offer.

A study currently being carried out by an organisation on Disability status in Uganda reveal multiple confessions by PWDs about inability to access 🏧. @UNAPD
The absence of sign language interpreters and other disability experts is also widely noted across almost all organisations. Discrimination in advancement of credit services is another evil.

I will provide the results of that study once finalised and published. @UNADeaf
The responsibility for success of the several Declarations, Conventions, Regulations and Laws does not rest with the government alone. Organisations like @dfcugroup must be held accountable if we are to register the much needed success in ensuring our society is fair to all.
I have reminded @dfcugroup, moved to a number of branch managers over their inaccessible 🏧 and other services, but all have remained in promises. When will they be held to account? If they cannot meet minimal accessibility criteria, what else can they get right? @NuwoduAdvocacy
Reaching where we all want our society to be requires a collective and multi-sectoral effort and organisations like @dfcugroup have to be brought in line for us to attain success.

Finally, I focused on DFCU because it is the institution I use for my banking needs.
