So first, a few rules of thumb (there's nuance and tweaks and exceptions, but lets just start here):
!! Set your MSRP at 10x the cost of manufacturing your book. Bare minimum set it at 5x. !!
Understand the margins of the industry: retailers take half. Distributors take another 10%. If you want your business to scale, you need to base your costs on working with something like 40% of MSRP as your gross income.
Been working a lot on the Warden’s Operations Manual for the Mothership Boxed set recently. I’m at the stage where I’m going through old notes to see if I missed anything. So I’m looking at all the stuff on the cutting room floor. This one hurt to lose.
Essentially it’s just a system sheet but man I went through maybe a dozen iterations before I settled on this… and then cut it entirely. Why? This implied a wide open space filled with adventure. Which isn’t Mothership.
Mothership is restricted travel. A neoliberal hell rather than the libertarian utopia (the Wild West) of most sci fi settings. You wouldn’t be able to travel to most of these planets in Mothership because the astronav data is proprietary.
