Did you know you are commanded in Scripture to be angry? Did you know it does not qualify it as "righteous indignation or anger"?
Ephesians 4 kicks off its list of commands with Be angry in verse 26.
Be angry.
Anger is just an emotion. It is neither good nor bad.
+
Anger is often the fuel that drives us to action. Sometimes our actions are good and other times our actions are destructive. Our anger can get us into trouble. But it does not have to, the choice is our's to make.
+
We often allow anger to rule our hearts, minds, and tongues. We say things in the heat of the moment that, let's be real, are better left unsaid.
We spew unwholesome words, words that tear down and destroy instead of edifying.
+
We can allow anger to drive kindness from our hearts, in this it hardens our heart which leads to death. Death of relationships and ultimately our own death.
This anger leads to bitterness, wrath, clamor, and slander and malice. These are to be put away from us.
+
The word anger is actually used twice in Ephesians 4. In v. 20 we are to be angry. In v. 31 we are to put it away.
Confusing, right?
Not really. Two different Greek words are used. In v. 31 it is οργή and we get our word orgy from it.
+
In v. 20 it has the same root but means to become exasperated.
Do you ever feel exasperated? Use that to drive your kindness, your tender-heartedness, and your forgiveness because you know Christ has forgiven you.
