Attack on Titan
The Final Season
Part 1
The Rewatch Thread
After WIT staff and Araki brought AoT into a wider world
MAPPA staff under Yuichiro Hayashi's direction take on the pressure and challenge of adapting the post-timeskip content and a stronger discourse on war #AoTVincent
Today is the 2nd anniversary of the Final Season
A big day for me
I will be making a live-tweet series per season but as the anniversary of the season that basically immersed me into the anime online community, I needed to skip to this point #AoTVincent
I will make different threads per episode, as well as links to any blog post I made before as references
Part 1 actually had most of its episodes reviewed on my Hubpages
Also watch out for special thread series in between
Will organize all thread types soon #AoTVincent
Opening 6: My War by Shinsei Kamattechan
The OP storyboarded by series director Hayashi may have "bland" visual direction if not for the fact that minimalism itself is a form of art, especially when expressed for a purpose
The OP is stripped of color for a cause #AoTVincent
Every figure and lifeform is a walking statue, devoid of dignity and purpose
The haunting march, crumbling soldiers, falling Titans, and remains of the dead are the same as the rocks and walls of the world
This is the helpless view we have of life
Gray without dignity #AoTVincent
However, the explosions remain colorful (and way detailed)
Fits how the primal desire in violence is the thrill, the "color" as living is empty, dull and that is how the lifeless of war remains content
"Some want to watch the world burn", a desire of a post-war world #AoTVincent
References are in each unrelated image
Abstract approach was similar to Dorohedoro's OP minus faces
Spine is Reiner's transformation in Ep 60
Flamethrower is the Ragako gassing
Scouts and city blast (Armin) from Assault
First explosion might be Hallucegenia gas (138) #AoTVincent
Marley's soldiers march on the streets as a haunting daily reminder of fascism
An empty face that we become should we submit to the Forest
The falling of birds shows the death of innocence, of "children clinging to their last coins" #AoTVincent
Lyrics are intentionally creepy and catchy altogether
Noko's dual singing embodies Ymir and Eren as spectators
The MV emphasizes a depressive tone in its reality but both versions use chants to disguise lyrics
War, the world's noise, the forest, is what we are used to #AoTVincent
This is just the beginning
Stay tuned as I will discuss Ending 6's lyrics and implications in a separate thread, along with the rest of the episodes

Episode 374: The Shooting Star Project (Zero Mix)
7/10
The calm after the storm
A dark atmosphere gathers in Soul Society after the dust settles
While bright light is a hollow hole for the bereaved who witness the apathetic Squad Zero claim Ichigo for their plans #BleachVincent
Episode 374 adapts:
Chapter 515: Relics
Chapter 516: Squad Zero (pages 2-6, 9-17)
Chapter 517: The Stairway to Heaven
Chapter 518: The Shooting Star Project (Zero Mix) (pages 1-10, 12-16)
Chapter 519: Hot, Hot, Heat
515 title page
While fast, not much was skipped #BleachVincent
Interesting choice to have Unohana not join as she was a veteran from Yamamoto's time
That is not a spoiler. We saw her face last episode
So why was she left behind? Was it so the best healer survives? Even as Kirinji reveals she cannot heal Byakuya et al fully #BleachVincent
Bleach Episode 373: Born in the Dark
9.5/10
A turmoil-filled conclusion to the first Wandenreich invasion, mired with a heavy weight of loss and uncertainty
Soul Society beyond repair, its image of protection and Ichigo's confidence broken like his Bankai #BleachVincent
Episode 373 adapts:
Chapter 511: Die Standing
Chapter 512: The Stand Ablaze
Chapter 513: The Dark Moon Stroke
Chapter 514: Born in the Dark
The extensions of the anime not only improve pacing but enrich the material of 511 and 514 to a surprising degree #BleachVincent
The first scene is original and I love it
The lack of voices is perfect as history is played through the dated film and the Sagisu choral track played in Episode 371
The song sounds heroic but the lyrics speak of the ruthlessness of Yamamoto and the original Gotei #BleachVincent
The start of Season 2 centers on Zeke Yeager, whose presence changed the entire story in more ways than one
The thread title is based on a quote from Bleach Volume 48: GOD IS DEAD and shares a thematic parallel to the subtle commentary of the quote and the volume’s figure, Aizen
Men being imitations of apes does not literally mean men act like apes
The second line is the answer: “All gods, imitations of men” means the gods we worship are a reflection of who we are and want
The Beast embodies both lines as an Ape due to its real unique feature, variation
Attack on Titan explores freedom as unbound, undefined existence, where Walls of humans do not decide our birthright
Eren’s exercise of freedom, from trampling on oppressors to trampling the rest for a childhood impossibility, reveals every shade of truth about our primal desires
Along with the paradoxes we perceive in the fulfillment of our being
Yet time and again, we receive another grim reminder from Attack on Titan
Being and Food - Children of the Forest and the Hunt for Freedom
(A thread on Chapter 111: Children of the Forest)
The month of July is a shared birth month for two people, Niccolo on the 23rd and Sasha on the 26th and the two were a hidden love story within a war story that seems so minor in the grand scheme of things yet may hold the most fundamental secret to the themes of Attack on Titan.
The simple concept of a food lover was nothing more than a gag in Season 1 yet the introduction of Sasha was the beginning of an understated yet powerful story about how someone trapped in war can find beauty in a cruel world through food.
Attack on Titan: Lost Girls
Three stories written by AoT scriptwriter Hiroshi Seko released on December 9, 2014 with a manga adaptation that ran from August 9, 2015 to May 9, 2016 drawn by Ryōsuke Fuji and OVAs released on 2017-2018 before and during Season 3
Volume 1 #AoTVincent
Ending: Call your name <Gv>
A female cover of the song sung by Gemie and composed by Hiroyuki Sawano
This mostly has shots of Season 1 events from Annie’s perspective, including her entry into the Walls with the Warriors (great shot btw) #AoTVincent
Episode 16.5A: Wall Sina, Goodbye: Part One
7/10
Great adaptation
Volume 1 is centered around Annie Leonhart, a cool protagonist whose self-control is mixed with exposed vulnerability by this case
Hiroshi Seko sets mystery elements really well here #AoTVincent
