Brief thread: Support your local volunteer #firefighters; they're the ones who are actually in your towns and villages with all the equipment and training when there's a bad accident --
They are individual nodes of trained help walking by, driving by, there right away even before their trucks and gear show up, while police and ambulances can take twenty minutes or longer to show up and the hospital is closed. #firefighters#FirstAid#HospitalClosures
They're not just for fires. I'd guess, from what I was on the edges of last night, quite a lot of what they do isn't fires.
Volunteer firefighters are the white blood cells of your community, roaming around doing their thing; then wham, they're needed; one chancing by sets the rest swarming to the scene even as 911 is contacting them; trained help at hand even before their trucks of equipment launch.
The hospital is mostly closed, the ambulances are overstretched and often very, very far away, the police probably so far away they take even longer than the ambulance to arrive, and at one per car, they're not really what you need for lifesaving anyway.
So, if you have some money to spare for donations to charities, remember your volunteer fire departments.
Okay, that wasn't so brief, sorry. Still a bit rattled, I guess.
Just something I witnessed last night, is all. Made me think about these things.

Wicked update: he saw the vet again today and is doing reasonably well; had his annual shots, had a long walk. Oh, and caused human panic this morning -- will take a thread to relay. Quite funny!
So, getting ready to take Wicked for his shots.
Me: Is WickedDog still outside?
Spouse, who had put him out on his chain because he wanted out again after his walk: No, I let him in.
Me: Are you sure? I can't find him.
Spouse and I search various rooms. No dog ...
(Spouse was up early to help lift Wicked in car; Spouse is not a morning person.)
Me, beginning to panic: Are you sure put his chain on? [B'cs Wicked, despite being old and slow, will bobble slowly off on his own given half a chance. Once a Wicked Husky, always a Wicked Husky.]
