And... there it is, HB 105, a previously amazing bill to support child sexual abuse and sexual violence victims and provide prevention education was amended to include a dangerous amendment that could block those victims from getting the healthcare they need. #LameDuckShenanigans
The amendment was added on a party line vote, all R's voting yes all D's voting no. Still waiting in this hearing to see what they do with HB 151, the bill that would ban Trans Youth from playing sports.
The amendment just added to HB 105 completely hijacks the bill. They may say they support child sexual abuse and sexual violence victims, but blocking them from the healthcare they need to recover from the abuse & assault shows that this "care" is all talk and no action.
Hearing on HB 151 has begun. Sen Vernon Sykes introduces amendment to add current OHSAA policy to the bill to determine if a trans athlete can play. After the Chair FLAT OUT ADMITS THE BILL WILL NEED MORE WORK AND ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH - they still go ahead and pass the bill.
Here is a CRAZY idea. Why don't you actually work to pass GOOD POLICY instead of continuously passing trash which you KNOW will harm Ohioans. But no, you think it is more important to play politics with our lives and placate your political base.
HB 151 and the amended HB 105 will be on the Senate floor today. Both will then go back to the house since they were amended in the Senate, that will also happen today. Find your legislators and give them a call RIGHT NOW to tell them to vote NO: legislature.ohio.gov
UPDATE: Looks like HB 151 is on the floor agenda for the Senate today, Amended HB 105 is not. It is entirely possible we will see it pop up again sometime today in another bill, so stay tuned for updates this afternoon/evening.
Oh wait... there's more. HB 45 was amended at the very last second to add 3 MILLION more $ for anti-abortion crisis pregnancy centers. The state budget already gave 6 million to these centers who lie to and coerce people to come to them for care. But they didn't stop there.
DeWine gave them another 1.5 mil this summer after the Dobbs decision came down. Anti-abortion crisis pregnancy center are NOT the solution for abortion bans. People who need abortions should be able to get abortions no matter what. Funding lies and coercion is not OK.
Call your legislator and tell them to vote NO on HB 45, no more $$ for crisis pregnancy centers to lie to and coerce Ohioans. legislature.ohio.gov

House is FINALLY back again... first up, concurrence vote on HB 458, a VERY bad bill that requires photo ID to vote, and several other bad voting provisions... looks like they will pass this bill even though they don't all some of it, and fixes to the bill will be added to HB 45.
So, they are going to vote on stuff they don't agree with, on the promise that they will get fixed "sometime between now and breakfast." Again, this is NOT how our democracy should work.
Rep Richard Brown, once again this bill is a solution in search of a problem. Even Secretary of State Frank LaRose says our system is a model for other states to use, our elections are safe and secure. Why are we screwing with a system LaRose calls "flawless"?
The OH Sen is currently adding a HUGE amendment without time for folks to review it to an already awful bill, HB 151 which bans trans youth from playing sports. This amendment is more than 2000 pages introduced after 10pm on the last day of session. This is NOT the way to govern.
This amendment is added to the bill - by a vote of 23-7, party line vote. Once again the OH Leg does what it does best, make a bad bill even worse... #LameDuckShenanigans
Senator @nickieantonio on Am HB 151 - reading testimony from Ember, a trans girl who plays sports in OH. She spoke to how important it was for her to be able to play girls softball, "it is one of the most affirming moments since coming out."
We're watching Ohio House Committee on Government Oversight hearing, and actively fighting against House Bill 294 and House Joint Resolution 6, which are both disasters for voters' rights in Ohio.

The committee opens with an amendment to House Bill 294 to restrict ballot boxes, which passes with full Democratic opposition.
The chairman is asked to allow additional testimony instead of shoving the bill through without adequate review. Rep. Shane Wilkin doesn't care, and passes the bill out of committee along party lines.
Hearing today: At 10:30AM, the Ohio House Government Oversight Committee will hear sponsor testimony on a "trigger ban" that would block all abortion in Ohio if the US Supreme Court banned abortion anywhere. Our @JMiracleOH speaks to the media before the committee starts.
A point of pride in today’s Pro-Choice Ohio endorsement of Emilia Sykes is that this is our very first endorsement for a federal elected office. As in... First Ever. 1/
In past elections, you’ve seen our team working to elect some terrific pro-choice champions into Congress and the White House. We are proud of that work. 2/
However, every one of those past endorsements — from Obama, Clinton, & Biden to members of Congress like Sherrod Brown & Joyce Beatty — were made by our former partner, the national NARAL office. 3/
