If you read this thread to the end, and if you implement these ideas
You can easily become a great Data Analyst.
Let's dive in.👇
5 Skills for Every Data Analyst:
1. Data Preparation 2. Numerical Analysis 3. Storytelling 4. Asking the Right Questions 5. Technology
Let's go in to each of these 👇
1. Data Preparation
To prepare data, you need to have these skills.
> Working with Data Sources:
you need to understand how to work with different data sources.
It may come from a web page, SQL DB, XML file, etc...
The 2nd skill under Data Preparation is 👇
> Cleaning up your data:
During this stage, you need to remove duplicate values.
Deal with blanks, and errors.
Fill up the missing values
The 3rd Skill under Preparation is:
> Combining Data:
During this stage, you are appending data sets, or doing intersections.
4th skill is👇
> Data Transformations:
This is when you already have the data but realize it is not in the desired shape, size, or frequency.
Moving on to the 2nd Skill. 👇
2. Numerical Analysis
There are many ways to do it, but you can go with these 4 areas:
> Statistical Analysis
This is basically, how to calculate simple statistics like mean, median mode and distribution.
Next is👇
> Functional Analysis:
This includes learning the functions of your industies and getting ideas of how some procedures work in your industry or line of work.
The next skill under Numerical Analysis is:👇
> Ad hoc Analysis:
As a data analyst, you may be asked to quickly analyze and produce outputs.
So it is always better if you know
- How to do Trend Analysis
- How to do distributions
There are no specific types of rules to do Ad hoc analysis.
The 4th Skill under Numerical Analysis is:
> Experimental analysis:
This is when you are asked to design an experiment or determine whether option A or B is superior.
Now we are moving to 3rd Skill; 👇
3. Storytelling
Telling stories with data.
You focus on charting and presenting.
Figure out which charts to use, how to format and present them,
and which can provide compelling, concise, and beautiful insights
With this skill, you also need to develop your persuation skill.
As a data analyst, you're selling insights to your audience,
which could be clients,
your manager, or
a shareholder.
You need to find a persuasive and concise way to tell that story.
With Storytelling and Persuation, if you could develop Design skill, it would be a greate conbination.
What I mean by Design Skill is, Develop a good understanding of
fonts,
colors, and
other design choices,
and how to creatively combine them to make your point.
This doesn't happen overnight, so practice and try different things to see what works best.
Now we are moving to the 3rd Skill: 👇
4. Asking the Right Questions
When you get an assignment or a project the first thing you need to do is, ask the right question.
This is because if you know
what you need to prepare,
what should be the outcome,
what is expected from you?
You could do it better and quicker.
For example, you may ask:
> Why you need it
> What you want me to include in this
> How do you want me to display
.
.
This is all to figure out the motivation behind the project/assignment.
Moving on to the Last Skill 👇
5. Technology
So, when it comes to technology skills, which include:
Excel
Tableau,
Python,
Power BI,
R
SQL
When it comes to presenting you may need to develop PowerPoint skills, and design Dashboards in Excel, that way you can present your data in a more convincing manner in front of your audience.
That is it for today,

Here are 9 Essential Tools for Data Analytics.
-Thread-
In this thread, I am going to show you a super fast breakdown of the 9 tools you'll be using as a data analyst.
Let's dive in.
1. Microsoft Excel:
Microsoft Excel is used by data analysts to run basic queries and to create pivot tables, graphs, and charts.
Excel also features a macro programming language called Visual Basic for Applications (VBA)
