It’s unclear how I’ll remain on this increasingly unpleasant platform (or how long it will exist). But in anticipation of taking a Twitter break (or Twitter breaking) soon, I’m going to do a year-end thread early because I wrote and published a bunch of stuff.
For @CNNOpinion, I used Dr. King’s Letter from Birmingham Jail to talk about the obstructionist senators Manchin and Sinema, who, like the white moderates Dr. King warned us about, showed they “valued order over justice” by blocking voting rights reform. cnn.com/2022/01/15/opi…
For @FiveThirtyEight, the brilliant (and easiest co-author ever) @hakeemjefferson and I wrote about the breakdown of 2020's racial reckoning.

Backlash is also a reckoning and opponents of racial justice are often successful. fivethirtyeight.com/features/white…
(As an aside, @NAACP_LDF cited this in a statement to the Select Committee Investigating January 6th Attack congress) naacpldf.org/wp-content/upl…
In @DemJournal, I argued that critical race theory can help explain the anti-crt moral panic. CRT bans borrow from similar laws in authoritarian regimes—an ominous development in a multiracial democracy. democracyjournal.org/magazine/65/cr…
For @TIME, I wrote about the similarity between anti-critical race theory propaganda and prior right-wing disinformation campaigns designed to undermine the scientific consensus on the harms of smoking, global warming, and even evolution. time.com/6202664/critic…
While reading @hmcghee's brilliant book, I hoped to get to write with her one day. It happened, and in @nytopinion, we argued SNCC’s Freedom Schools—and their honesty about American history—are a model for revitalizing public education. nytimes.com/2022/09/01/opi…
After the above gloom and doom, @prisoncultures’ phrase “hope is a discipline” inspired me to write about non-reformist reforms and the abolitionist movement giving me hope for @TheNewRepublic. newrepublic.com/article/168832…
I also published a couple of academic articles. @MaxJordan_N, @Eugenia_South, and I wrote about medical schools as racialized organizations for @JournalGIM link.springer.com/article/10.100…
And @pamela_herd, @donmoyn, and I teamed up to write about racialized burdens as inequality-producing mechanisms for @JPART1991
academic.oup.com/jpart/advance-…
Last but not least, I published my first book #OnCriticalRaceTheory, with @penguinrandom (thanks, @jamiaw and @sarahburnes). Here is a thread explaining why I wrote the book. And books (especially from local bookstores) make great holiday gifts.
Shout-out to all the editors who put up with me, treated my words with care, and made me sound better than I sometimes deserved (especially @jamiaw and @mtomasky). And thanks to @GregoryKubie for facilitating so much of this.
