Last night’s World Cup final was an emotion❤️

What we found interesting is that there are parallels between the character of Kabir Khan in Chak De India, the real-life story of coach Mir Ranjan Negi, and Argentinean coach Lionel Scaloni.
Read on👇
Chak De India was released in 2007 and was loosely based on the true story of hockey player Mir Ranjan Negi. In the 1982 Asian Games, Negi was the goalkeeper for the India men’s national field hockey team in the final field hockey match against Pakistan which India lost 1-7!
After the match, Negi was made the target of much humiliation and shame, even being labelled a "traitor".

He returned to hockey, 16 years later as a goalkeeping coach for the men’s hockey team when India won the 1998 Asian Games gold at Bangkok.

16 YEARS LATER!
Negi went on to train the women’s team as a goalkeeping coach, even winning the Commonwealth Games gold in 2002. In Chak De India, Shah Rukh played Kabir Khan, a hockey player who accidentally makes a big mistake in an India-Pakistan match in the World Cup, which led India losing
In the film, Kabir Khan comes back to coach the women’s team and help them win the World Cup.

In 2006, 1 year before the release of Chak De India, Lionel Scaloni was a tremendous player himself. He was playing for West Ham Club on loan from Deportivo Club .
In the 2006 FA Cup final against Liverpool, West Ham was leading 3-2 with 4 min remaining. Scaloni deliberately kicked the ball out so Liverpool's Djibril Cisse could receive treatment for a cramp in his left leg. But Scaloni’s sporting gesture had repercussions.
After the throw-in, within seconds, Gerrard latched onto the loose ball and equalized with a brilliant long-range strike. 3-3. The match went to penalties and Liverpool won 3-1 to become the 2006 FA Cup Champion. And Scaloni was made the villain. And his career never recovered.
In November 2018, Scaloni fully took over the responsibility of Argentina’s coach. In 2019, he took the team to 3rd place in Copa America, and in 2021, the team won the Copa America. And now in 2022 he helped them win the FIFA World Cup 2022.

16 YEARS SINCE THE WEST HAM LOSS! 🤩
Now we understand why Scaloni was so emotional last night.

All 3 men - Negi, Kabir, Scaloni - faced defeat in their individual careers, suffered public humiliation, and then came back from all that to help teams win on the world stage! ❤️

Love it or hate it, @WWE and some of the wrestlers/superstars have had a influence on pop-culture!

Today, we explore the career and some fun aspects of one the best ever to do it The @undertaker!

A thread🧵
His real name, contrary to popular belief is NOT The Undertaker. He was born Mark William Calaway and he's always been tall AF.

He was a high school basketball player who towered over his teammates.
The Undertaker made his debut in 1990 in @WWE
(then mistaken for the @WWF) as "Kane the Undertaker".

This is a huge coincidence. Kane (actually named Glenn Jacobs) is a character who is the half-brother of The Undertaker who debuted in 1997.

As Barbara Walters rightly said, Happy 33rd Birthday to "the music industry" @taylorswift13

Here is a thread 🧵of interesting things our team knows about her
She was named after another singer/ songwriter James Taylor, and the two singers ended up sharing the stage in 2011 to perform “Fire and rain” together.

She was also named so because her mother believed that a gender-neutral name would help forge her a better business career.
When she lived in Pennsylvania her family owned a 11-acre Christmas tree farm. She claims that it cemented in her an unnatural level of excitement about fall and then the holiday season. Can’t blame her.

A very interesting tale about his 4th World championship win. Anand had planned to go to Sofia a week in advance to take on his Bulgarian opponent Veselin Topalov.

His flight from Frankfurt though got cancelled due to the eruption of that unpronounceable Icelandic volcano.
A request to postpone the game fell on deaf ears.

Trains were overbooked, flights weren't taking off. There didn't seem a way to reach Sofia on time.

A couple of days later, Anand managed to hire a bus for his team.

Only a small matter of traveling 1750km.

While it is impossible to say when/where a genre of music is born, some individuals play a crucial role in popularising it.

Thanks to Bengaluru’s own Biddu Appaiah, “Indi-pop” became a phenomenon across South Asia & the world!

A thread on Indi-Pop music by @nandyellidli 🧵
That said, this story probably starts with a suave Feroze Khan who was partying in London and noticed the Pakistani singer Nazia Hassan!

Who can forget the inimitable Zeenat Aman swaying to this mega hit in Qurbani!
Aap Jaisa was composed by Biddu, who was looking for a hit after the mega success of his 1974 track (more next).

Biddu also signed Nazia's brother, and produced the Urdu Album "Disco Deewane". The Hassan brother-sister duo were the subcontinent's The Carpenters!
