I don't envy teams trying to balance their games when nerfing NFT's will cost holders money.

We'll see some weak-willed teams ruin their game because of it - too frightened of angering their holders to nerf assets.

My advice to teams:
Get out ahead of the problem.

Before you've sold a single asset, make it abundantly clear to buyers that game balance comes first - assets are prone to changes.

Maintain that messaging as you go forward.
Lots of teams will get creative, doing their best to balance without employing nerfs.

If sniper rifles are OP, rotate in more maps that are congested and lacking vantage points.

If one build's OP, rather than nerf it you can buff all the other builds.
In the words of the great IceFrog (Dota 2 Lead Designer)-

"If everything is OP, nothing is OP."

...of course, IceFrog employs about 100 nerfs per patch.
You can only avoid nerfs so much.

It's not actually realistic to balance a game without ever resorting to them.

(And indirect nerfs are still nerfs anyway of course, though they'll go over a lot better with the community)
I'd be wary of paying a premium for assets that are more OP than intended.

Either the nerfstick is headed your way...

...or the team lacks the balls to balance their game, in which case it's doomed regardless.
Side note: We should see some interesting meta-trading surrounding balance patches.

Players dumping OP heroes when it's announced there's an upcoming patch.

Players buying underwhelming heroes, expecting a buff.

Games w/ liquid markets will be full of trading opportunities.

Web 3 gaming REALITY CHECK thread 🧵

For all the new followers, here's a list of ALL my previous advice & unpopular opinions.

Let's start with one of the most unpopular:

1/ All these "social" metaverses are going to zero.

There's many reasons why but here's the main one ⬇️
The cycle for games that rely on user generated content is:

A community of users -> attracts creators -> more content built -> attracts more users

But communities don't just appear, they need a reason to exist. No one wants to build in your empty ass blank slate world.

Next ➡️
2/ This isn't a market for buying & holding assets and tokens. No matter how much I like a project, I'm not buying anything unless gameplay is imminent.

3/ If projects have gameplay they'll show it to you. If they haven't shown you gameplay then it's not coming any time soon.

My last tweet 2x'd my followers so in the spirit of giving ppl more of what they want, I'll post an upcoming free gaming mint each day for the next few days.

I'll let you know how keen on them I am & how hard they are to mint so u can decide if they're worth the effort.

Day 1⬇️
@PirateNationNFT

Mint date: Nov 8
Supply: 9999

Supply is high but WL holders get two mints and in the semi-public round you can mint three, so really the effective supply, for the purposes of selling out, is closer to 3k.

The team here is high quality, with plenty of previous founder experience.

The CEO alone:
✅ had a start up acquired by Zynga
✅ had a start up acquired by Google
✅ was Co-Creator and Lead Developer of Farmville

That's a pretty fucking nuts resume.

Free gaming mints are putting up numbers.

Digi | 15+ ETH
Castaway | 15+ ETH
Tribo | 0.5 + ETH
Azra | nearly 0.5 ETH

I got in on Azra, Castaway & Tribo
(& had notifs on for Digi but it stealth minted at like 4am for me)

Here's how to find them + my pick for the next big one ⬇️
2/
About the only consistent & easy to spot catalyst for hype in web3 gaming right now is funding.

Look at the funding for the projects mentioned above

@DigiDaigaku - $200M
@AzraGames - $15M
@castaways_gg - $12.5M
@PlayTriboGames - $1.2M

Tribo looks like an exception, but..
3/

..they announced their free mint at the same time as their funding announcement, and minted one week later.

They capitalised IMMEDIATELY on their funding hype, as small as that funding was.

So to find the big mints FOLLOW THE FUNDING.

Is that all?

Not quite.
