The latest updates from WotC regarding V1.1 of the OGL are not an #OpenDnD
At best, they are the open door of a rabbit trap.
The current OGL grants a "perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, nonexclusive license". V1.1, as outlined in today's article, will not. 🧵1/5
The article says creators will have to do the following to use OGL 1.1
-Accept the license terms and let us know what you’re offering for sale
-Report OGL-related revenue annually (if you make more than $50,000 in a year)
-Include a Creator Product badge on your work

The fact that creators will have to report their creations to WotC and use their special badge is a big red flag in terms of an *OPEN* gaming license.
And that reporting of $50k+ revenue; that's a bad sign of things to come. 3/5
I would bet my hat that WotC are using that to gather data to adjust their floor for when they demand royalties. Starting 2024 it will be on $750k+ revenue, but I fully expect that threshold to come WAY down, especially as the brand is so "under-monetized" 4/5
Not a lawyer, but I hope that OGL 1.0 remains in effect, so that folks can make content compatible with that version of the license and not have to buy into the 1.1 license.
If anything, I'm *more* concerned about the OGL future now than I was before 🤣
