Stop saying that the war in Ukraine is being waged by Russia and the Russian people. It's a war of Putin and his regime. The narrative that Russia as a whole is at war benefits Putin and is not true. A thread 1/8
Russian people by no means benefit from this war. Even though a lot of brainwashed TV-viewers cheer on the invasion, only a very small proportion of them are willing to sacrifice their lives for the success of the so-called “special military operation” 2/8
The first wave of mobilization was the direct consequence of Putin's failure to recruit enough people for military contracts. Despite offering salaries of up to $6500/month (far above the officially average $700/month), they still couldn't find enough men willing to serve 3/8
Russia saw a huge number of contracted military personnel who, upon returning from deployment, refused to do another tour of duty due to newly developed pacifist beliefs. Rights activist Sergey Krivenko, a "Memorial" board member, says there are thousands of them 4/8
In light of this in September, despite multiple assurances to the public, Putin issued an open-ended, half-secretive decree allowing military to draft pretty much anyone they wanted. He also banned contracted soldiers from ending their service — direct response to a new trend 5/8
This is not what the national war looks like. People may repeat the propaganda talking points under the threat of imprisonment or because they don’t know any better, but they clearly do not feel like this is their war. Nor do they see it as a just war 6/8
Propaganda TV ratings are declining and people are growing tired of the official narrative. This trend should be supported by everyone opposed to the war. Framing Putin’s war as a national war is not that 7/8
Therefore: while Ukrainian experience in the context of war should absolutely be central, we must push back against Putin's portrayal of Russia as a besieged fortress and expose how he is also harming his own people by making them poorer and more isolated 8/8

Zelensky travels to a frontline Bakhmut, currently the most dangerous site of the fiercest battles. Ukraine's President embodied courage and resilience numerous times during the war. He remained in Kyiv, visited the frontline, and met troops and wounded soldiers 1/9
The antithesis of Putin hidden away in the bunker, and his military chiefs distant from the front. Putin’s recent public appearances were carefully staged meetings with a handpicked group of people. Even his own generals are seated at Putin's ludicrously long meeting table 2/9
Even his widely publicised visit to headquarters for top military officials most likely took place far from the Ukrainian frontline, in safe Moscow. Putin's personal security and the safety of his own life are his biggest concerns, which he takes very seriously 3/9

Russian propaganda is built on the notion that this is not a fight against Ukraine but rather an act of liberating its people from "Nazis" who have infiltrated Ukraine's government and military establishments 1/12
Meanwhile, Putin launches yet another offensive against Ukraine - striking down its power grid. The thread below looks at how Putin's brutal tactics belie his claims and expose his lies about war objectives 2/12
The narrative "this is not a fight against Ukraine but rather an act of liberating its people," is crucial for Putin in shaping public opinion. Even a bloodthirsty dictator like him refuses to admit that he purposely and consistently destroys Ukraine as a state and nation 3/12

Putin cancelled his annual press conference for the first time in a decade as well as his address to the Federal Assembly. Although the Constitution mandates communications between the President and the Parliament. Here's a thread on why this is a significant sign 1/11
Putin has nothing to say to ordinary Russians and the Russian elite. He can't possibly avoid talking about the war, its goals, and its course in his statements. He also lacks solid justifications and forecasts in light of the Russian army's failures 2/11
Putin's forces failed to seize Kyiv as well as demoralise Ukrainian soldiers. Ukrainians managed to liberate several captured territories in late summer and early autumn and successfully launched symbolic retaliatory strikes upon Russian territory 3/11

Mikhail Khodorkovsky: "For more than twenty years Putin has been the leader of a major power, with enough resources in his hands to change the whole country and even the world for the better. But he has traded those opportunities for theft. (1/3)
But he has trapped himself in corruption. His money is lying around in various offshore companies and nominal owners, the Kolbins and the Roldugins. How many of them will remain loyal to Putin after he leaves? That's why he can't leave without losing his billions and yachts (2/3)
.@dossier_center found out how the president personally stole over a $billion through a bunch of offshore companies+friends of his youth. And I'll tell you how this and other episodes of his corruption have shaped both the president and his government as we see them today" (3/3)

1)Last week @washingtonpost reported on Kremlin attempts to subvert Moldovan government
That’s just the tip of the iceberg. The @dossier_center uncovered who runs FSB operations in Moldova🇲🇩, how much money its ex-president receives from Russia🇷🇺 and who is spying there right now
2) Firstly, why Moldova🇲🇩?
Putin doesn’t just want Ukraine: he wants to restore USSR’s geopolitical power. Moldova is the best next target for him. Not in EU🇪🇺 or NATO, major Russian-speaking population and a border with Ukraine🇺🇦.
3)US Treasury says Russia subverts democracy in Moldova.True. Let’s meet the guys who do it. First, FSB 5th Service Gen. Milyutin. We obtained a video from his birthday where he and his friends toast to the restoration of the USSR. In case it wasn’t already clear what they wanted

World’s largest shipping company has left Russia. The move represents a full departure from the sanctions-hit country. Maersk has stopped accepting new bookings on all of its services to and from 🇷🇺 and will sell all of its assets in 🇷🇺 following its annual meeting of shareholders Image
As it stands, every third container in Russia belongs to Maersk. According to Alphaliner, Maersk is one of four operators (Maersk, MSC, CMA CGM and COSCO) who control 58% of Russia’s shipping market.
Other leaders in the shipping sector have also decided to leave Russia – this includes Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), CMA CGM, Hapag-Lloyd, Ocean Network Express (ONE) and Yang Ming. A number of other operators using smaller terminals have pulled out too.
