Iranian protester #MohammadGhobadlou, 22, risks being executed imminently after Supreme Court announced decision to uphold his death sentence issued after sham unfair trial. Authorities must immediately halt plans to execute him & quash his death sentence. 
Mohammad Ghobadlou was sentenced to death under 2 months after his arrest on 22 September. His independent lawyers were not allowed in court. According to his family and lawyers, the court did not adequately examine his mental health problems, which he has said he suffers from.
Mohammad Ghobadlou was sentenced to death for “corruption on earth” after a sham trial before a Revolutionary Court. Authorities used torture-tainted “confessions” to convict him of running over police officials with a car, killing one and injuring several others.
Mohammad Ghobadlou’s lawyer has pointed to the prosecution’s reliance on flawed evidence while warning that the authorities are seeking to convict his client in a summary fashion, which he said would constitute “revenge” not justice.
Amnesty International has serious concerns that Mohammad Ghobadlou was subjected to torture and other ill-treatment. An official forensic report pointed to bruising and injuries on his body which it assessed had been sustained when he would have been in custody.
The allegations of torture and other ill-treatment against Mohammad Ghobadlou must be criminally investigated and those responsible must be held accountable.
International community must use all tools at its disposal to pressure Iran’s authorities to halt Mohammad Ghobadlou’s execution & not allow Iran’s machinery of death to claim another victim while word’s attention is on celebrating the festive season.
