WhatsApp users have lost ₹54 Crores to QR Code Scams 🤯

Here is all you need to know about the #QRCode Scam👇
1/ Modus operandi

Mr. Sharma just put his sofa for sale on OLX @ ₹1,00,000

She thought people would bargain for it as the price was quite high 💵

But a guy was ready to purchase it😮

And sent her a QR Code to receive money and

Money was instead debited🤡
2/ The reality behind it

Fraudsters ask you to scan QR codes

They are actually Collection requests

Please note that QR codes are always used to MAKE payments and not receive them

3/ Guidance by @DelhiPolice

Last year Delhi Police released a detailed video on QR scam

These are the steps which take place👇
A. Victim lists a product like:

- Old furniture,
- Refrigerator,
- Air conditioner etc.

for sale on platforms like:
- OLX,
- Facebook Market place,
- Just Dial etc.

in a bid to find a buyer

B. Fraudsters Win Your Trust

🔶 Fraudsters posing as buyer contacts the owner of the item over phone and offers to pay in advance

🔶 To initiate the process of conning the buyer, the fraudster further shares fake ID cards

🔶 The fraudsters may also impersonate as an army man
C. Act of FRAUD‼️

🔶 In the final stage, a QR code is shared over WhatsApp

asking you to scan it to receive payment

🔶 The victim then scans QR code on wallet apps such as PayTM and enters his banking pin

🔶 Once done, the money gets debited instead of being credited
4/ What can be done?

@RBI says that, for receiving a payment, details like:
- Scanning Bar Codes
- Scanning QR Codes
- Entering Mobile Banking Pins (m-PIN) or
- Entering Passwords

is never required❌

Hence, while receiving payments सावधान रहें! सतर्क रहें!
