India were 7 down for 74, with the set batter Axar Patel back in the hut. Mehidy had taken 5-for with his skiddy non-turners and was breathing fire.

Ashwin joined him in the middle with his growing reputation as an all-rounder, looked edgy, with Mehidy beating him with last ball of a successful 30th over. At the end of 30th over, both batters had played 3 balls each.

Mehidy was bowling as tightly as he could, creating chances every over. Both of them put their head down and played out next 7 overs as calmly as possible. In 34th over, Ashwin survives, a drop at short-leg. Every ball is an event, an edge here, a grubber there.

Come 38th over, Shreyas now has seen enough and given his solid game over spin, he is ready to take on. On the 4th ball, Mehidy invites Shreyas to drive by bowling a full one wide of off, Shreyas obliges with a well-timed, beautiful square drive. India moves to 93/7.

Couple more overs of silence and then Shakib comes in to bowl 41st. Ashwin gets beaten in flight, an outside edge and he is off the strike. Shakib bowls one full, Shreyas steps out, inside out, over extra cover, 4.

Then, Shakib overcompensates, pulls his length back for the last ball of the over, Shreyas goes back, pulls it over midwicket for 4. India breathes easy now with 106/7, needing 39 to win. Shreyas seems to batting on a different track.

41st over, Ashwin takes a single, Shreyas back on strike. Mehidy errs in length, bowls one short, Shreyas is not one to miss out. Rocks back, creates more room and time, whacks it thru cover for 4.
By this time, Iyer had hit 4 fours, Ashwin none.
Spin threat neutralised.

India needed only 34 and Shakib played his last hand, brought pacer against Ashwin. And from there, Ashwin took over. India sealed the deal 47th over, after Ashwin slammed Mehidy for 16 in one over.

Scorecard would go on to show that Shreyas Iyer played second fiddle to Ashwin, but in reality, it was his brilliant game against the Bangla spinners that paved the way for Ashwin show.
