I'm writing about some OTHER lies that Michael Shellenberger told in his little Twitter Files thread, but this one deserves far more attention because a whole slew of people claim it shows the FBI was asking for information without legal process.
What it ACTUALLY is is Elvis Chan, the local FBI guy, passing on a request from the NSA about prohibitions on Dataminr sharing the live feed of Twitter information.
But note: EVEN THE SCREENCAP makes it clear this is a request for public Twitter information.
NSA: Can we get public Twitter information from Dataminr or is that still prohibited?
Twitter: It is still prohibited.
That's what the screencaps show.
But all the little Elmo pets seem to believe it would be SCANDALOUS if Twitter allowed the sharing of the data feed with US intelligence.
Except ... know what Elmo's backers, including the Saudis and Qataris, get?
The data feed.
Tl;dr: All these purported civil libertarians are outraged that pre-Elmo Twitter refused to give NSA public information, but they're not at all bothered that Elmo has given THAT SAME INFORMATION to the Saudis and Qataris.
I've written, a bunch, about how the Twitter Files serve as cover for a bunch of authoritarian things that Elmo has done.
But this is a key example: Pre-Elmo Twitter refusing to do something Elmo has done, but worse.
BREAKING! #MattyDickPics is covering up for the way that Elmo is sharing information with Saudi and Qatari intelligence that pre-Elmo Twitter refused to share with US intelligence.
(And he's probably too stupid to realize that.)
The firehose is one of the things included in the "confidential company information" referenced in this story.
Me: This claim Elmo's pets made misrepresents both the legal process & the rest of the content.
Stupid rube: If you don't believe a claim that has not been proven & that is totally unrelated to screen cap is serious you're [insert ableist slur]
Basically, Twitter Files is just a giant invitation for a bunch of REALLY STUPID PEOPLE to brag about how easily duped they are.
Inevitably, after I point out that a stupid person has yelled at me for not believing the false things they've been duped into believing, another stupid person responds by saying that not being duped by a billionaire platforming actual Nazis and his pets is "fascism."
Not long before Wolf likened the threat of right wing terrorism to Coast Guard threats, he had acknowledge the focus on it in the wake of the 2019 attack in El Paso.
Then, leading up to explaining why his speech abt threats to US included just a passing mention abt terrorists who would attack Capitol months later, Wolf explained they cut a lot bc they were sure people would fall asleep & it was a "bit of the rah-rah." documentcloud.org/documents/2355…
Really looking forward to the corrections of the conspiracy theorists who've written about CISA w/o the most basic understanding of what it does.
Those same conspiracy theorists might want to read how CISA fought the Iranian disinformation campaign targeting THE PROUD BOYS, an effort approved by the White House.
That's true bc as a recent GJ unsealing revealed, Klukowski is being investigated in parallel with John Eastman and Jeffrey Clark (and a fourth person who is not a lawyer) -- I wouldn't be surprised if DOJ has seized his phone.
Flynn's sorry-ass refusal to march to the Capitol bc it was too cold on Jan6 is hilarious for a lot of reasons, but it has significant ramifications for both the Oath Keepers and Brandon Straka.
But a lot of this also falls out from the VIP fight (the Report is a bit thin on that too, not even mentioning Flynn): Had Flynn and Stone gotten their speaking role, they likely would have marched.
The effect was likely the same (except for Straka and the Oath Keepers).
The Report relies on claims Alex Jones made on his own show for details about his movement, which makes it about as reliable as the claim that Sandy Hook victims were just crisis actors.
