Here’s a look at my broader plan to address the immense violence and injustice against the people and environment of the DR Congo caused by cobalt mining: (1/6)
1. My book, “Cobalt Red: How the Blood of the Congo Powers Our Lives” will be the first book to bring the voices of the Congolese people to a world that cannot function without their suffering (Jan 31). us.macmillan.com/books/97812502… (2/6)
2. An academic study of the Congo’s cobalt mines, including estimates of #childlabor and #forcedlabor. It will include supply chain tracing, satellite imagery, and environmental sampling. The report will be released late 2023 through my primary academic post @rightsbeacon. (3/6)
3. There is also documentary film inspired by “Cobalt Red” in the early stages of development with a terrific Hollywood production company. The film will hopefully be out in 2024. (4/6)
With these projects, there will be no room left for denial or avoidance of the truth: tech and EV companies reap immense profits by selling products that largely rely on cobalt mined in horrific conditions in the DRC, and they are not doing enough to address that injustice. (5/6)
We flood the world with truth, and people of conscience will set things right. They always have, and they always will. (6/6)
