Aside - when I met @floydcardoz at his NYC restaurant Paowallah, I talked about the name. And he said yeah, there was a proud element of "taking it back" in starting a restaurant in Manhattan named for a term that was often thrown at him insultingly in India growing up.
Things like Ganpati, Garba, Pujo, Eid, Christmas, Holi, Onam were all happy inclusive occasions in India. We are the country that would wish people "happy good Friday" lol instead of "happy Easter".

I hope all Indians who watch #DerryGirls take a moment to pause and realize that BJP actively working to turn us into something like the Derry in that show. They are starting a sanghi version of The Troubles. Pitting us in perpetual sectarian conflict.
If we start turning our endless festivals into occasions to divide rather than come together, then we are very much looking at NI Troubles or Gaza type situation for the rest of our lives in India. That's the real "Gujarat Model".

Remember that at the end of the day, almost every single "religious festival" has something to do with the moon, the sun, or the Earth's axis. The religious stories have been retrofit. Why so many festivals in so many religions coincide. They are based on nature not religion.

So yeah, you celebrate the winter solstice with Hannukah or Christmas or Sankrant or Pongal. Spring with Easter, Holi, Passover etc. Autumn harvest with Diwali, Thanksgiving, Onam etc.
Eat, drink, have fun. That's the point of festivals.
