My Grandaddy, Jack Sutton was born in 1918 and he lived to be 85 years old passing just a few weeks before my graduation in 2003. He was always in great shape even as an 85 year old and
The family always talked about him being a hard worker. #DescendantChallenge
This Christmas I learned just how hard of a worker he was. My Granddaddy used to wake up each morning at around 4 am so that he could leave the house at 5 am heading to work in Hattiesburg, MS. Hattiesburg is about 30 miles away from Richton, MS. He would often walk to work.
I thought about what that was like for him… on an every day basis and certainly as a Black man in Mississippi in the 1950s and 60s. He would repeat this process 5 days a week. And didn’t have a lot of money in spite of the back breaking hours he put in.
He left school after 8th grade to go work in the fields with his family. Eventually he and Madea made a family of their own.
My Auntie Carolyn tells us a funny story about preparing his lunch for work. Since he would have to be to work so early each one of the 5 girls would take turns preparing his lunch at 4 am. Auntie Carolyn burned the chicken one morning during her rotation.
after that Grandaddy didn’t want her to cook his lunch anymore 🤣. “I don’t want none!” Lol this was a reoccurring theme for some time and we would all jokingly say “I don’t want none.” Sometimes remembering him and his sense of humor.
Grandaddies long walks to work paved the way for his children to become college graduates and his grand children to become Doctors, Attorneys, nurses, accountants, computer scientists, business owners and more. He walked so we could Fly. I am forever grateful to him for that.
To both of my grandparents because Made was holding it down with 8 children while waiting for him to make it home safely each night after those long walks. Today, we honor you, we celebrate you. We Give Flowers. This is my #DescendantChallenge

I really wasn’t going to say anything else about the Tory Lanez case. But in light of the audio which didn’t leak… it’s public record… I feel the need to say this. Megan Thee Stallion is one of the most popular Black Women in the world & she was a victim of violence-
Even with 3 eyewitnesses including herself as a victim, bullet fragments in her feet, video of her bleeding from her feet- There were people who chose not to believe her rather than to believe something that made no sense at all. It was not until some heard Tory himself
Acknowledging that he had wronged Megan on a phone call to Kelsey that some finally conceded that what happened to Megan is what Megan said happened to her. And that is the fucking problem. Because for some, it’s not the victim’s word, nor the words of eyewitnesses, nor surgeons

In a report by North Carolina Beat, witnesses said Krieg Butler shot Sinzae in his back and then came back around and reshot him multiple times. blackwithnochaser.com/sinzae-reeds-k…
On October 13, 2022, Krieg was arrested and charged with murder and put in jail under a $1 million bond. Nearly a week later, on October 19, 2022, Butler was released and charges were DISMISSED after claiming he acted in “self-defense.”

So there’s value to the jury in this testimony- perhaps as an independent party & perhaps as a, to be quite honest, a party to which a some of the jury may feel is more relatable to their own mindsets. Kelly testified that Lanez was firing a weapon everywhere & shot 4-5 times
He also testified to fighting and the people jumping on “The Bigger Girl” - he was referring to Megan being the one assaulted at this point. As far as defense witnesses go… he wasn’t a great witness for the defense- but I honestly have no idea what aspect(s) of his testimony
They want to hear again- but it’s clear that it’s important to at least 1 juror to hear It again & it’s something the jury is clearly patient enough to do- even with the holidays approaching.

While I do believe Meg completely, my approach to the closing would have been different or at least this part would have been. Because cumulatively speaking the evidence in totality (Meg, Kelsey, Kelly’s) testimony say Tory shot Meg that night.
1. Did Tory have a gun? Yes 2. Did Tory Fire a gun multiple times? (According to 3 witnesses yes) 3. Was Meg Shot? Yes. THESE are the critical questions. And between the witnesses those questions were answered. No matter how convoluted the stories were besides that.
Megan’s Story and her word is and should be enough… but Megan’s story is supported by Kelsey’s September video and the Defense’s witness testimony that the Short Man was firing a gun everywhere. (And shot 4-5 times). There were 5 shell casings on the ground.

Let me break down the statute and the elements of the crime on which Tory Lanez is being tried for firing a weapon at Megan Thee Stallion. Image
Bullet fragments in Meg’s feet are proof that a gun was fired in Meg’s direction and that she was actually shot by those bullets. Arguing the elements of a crime at trial are really more like math or science than anything else- you’re either showing that 1+1 exists to = 2 Image
Or you are arguing as a defense that this can not = 2 because you do not have 1 + 1 (or what we call the elements of the crime… as a defense you’re only really looking to defeat one element - because one element missing means they can’t prove what they are arguing equals 2). Image

I will tell you that telling Black People in Mississippi to vote In Mississippi when we share with you the racist nature of our state government, state officials, the systems that exists - it’s very much a gaslighting of the people here to imply we aren’t proactive in our process
Mississippi ACTIVELY works to disenfranchise Black and Brown voters and the reason they aren’t attempting to implement NEW laws to disenfranchise Black people is because other states are now copying Mississippi’s CURRENT laws. We organize, we vote, we fight in the Supreme Court
And not 1 person has ever been A Black elected state official for the state of Mississippi. It’s flippant as fuck to say to us “vote” or “vote him out” and I really need for progressives to cut that shit and quick. If voting these mutha fuckas out was that simple I promise
